Bike to Work Scheme and Tri Gear

Just wondering if you can throw in some tri gear in your €1,000 limit for that scheme?

Would trying to get a cheap mountain bike and a decent wetsuit covered by the scheme be pushing my luck a bit?

If you can get the retailer to mark a wetsuit as "cycle clothing - general" on the invoice to your employer, then you're laughing, basically.

Of course, this is highly immoral and constitutes tax fraud.

Feic it, we pay enough tax and as for the levy, don't get me started... anyway a bit of tax relief on a decision to lead a healthier lifestyle... about time! If the bike shop guy is happy to write a quote for 'cycling gear' that includes other bits then all good. The guy's employer still has to approve the submitted form and quote.

And once its abused and stopped?

No I would disagree - by all means buy "cycles, cycle accessories and cycle safety accessories" but stretching to wetsuits - sorry but no, thats wrong.

I guess it would be at the discretion of the retailer. Personally I would prefer to see the scheme rules adhered to. The scheme is in its infancy and although I'm not sure how well or even if it is regulated I imagine that if it were found out that people were abusing the system already then it may not be around very long, especially given the current economic and political climate.

Ok, yeah wetsuits is taking the piss. However its is the discretion of the bike shop owner what he stamps a quote for. I'm hoping to pick up a mtb ONLY from the scheme myself. Can't wait to do some fun biking stuff

We've had a lot of trouble getting the C2W scheme implemented in our workplace after Revenue shut down the previous salary sacrifice scheme (creche fees) as they felt it might be open to fraud. So you could easily ruin things for everyone by trying to abuse the system.

Cyclesuperstore have a tri starter pack, im sure you could work out some sort of deal with them about the wording of the invoice. Most shops are pretty flexable when it comes to the cycle 2 work scheme.

I used the cycle to work scheme and got a bike and some gear but also got some tri shotrs etc. The chap in the bike shop said he would give me whatever I wanted and would put it down as cycling gear. The bike shop dont care and to be honest the company I work for didnt care either once they have a reciept saying bike gear. So Tracto, If i were you Id go for it once the bike shop puts it down as cycling gear.

At least, you'll be warm on the bike during the winter month..and if you get a wetsuit a bit small, you may even stay dry on the bike when it rains:rolleyes:

I've just started looking at this scheme myself. Any recommendations guys for a road bike? I intend using it mainly for complementing my running... long cycles on rest days perhaps. Don't figure on using the full 1K allowance.. perhaps up to 800.
