    Just got an email regarding this delightful exam, not to sure what to make of it. Might be being a little sceptical but is it just waffle from the institute or are they genuinely going to help all students to pass?
    What are your thoughts?

    Important Notice for CAP 2 Students

    The customary ACASSI report to the Institute following the summer examinations raised a range of issues with the CA Proficiency 2 Strategic Finance and Management Accounting paper particularly.

    A meeting was held between ACASSI representatives and the Institute on 8 July to discuss the report. We received the following assurances from the Institute:

    The Institute confirmed that the examination would be marked in the normal fashion and additional reviews made of failing candidates to avoid them being disadvantaged. Additional 'double marking' processes are being put in place to address this;

    The Institute recognizes that students prepared and sat the examination in good faith and there is no question of asking any students to re-sit the examination;

    The examination results will be issued as planned on August 14.

    For the benefit of the rest of us could you post up what the email said and then maybe we could help?

    Does double marking mean that they will mark it twice and since they are marking it twice, that when you get back your result there is no need to appeal as well they marked it twice?
    And whats the bit about "there is no question of asking any students to re-sit the examination" does that means that everyone passed. Or does the ICAI now relise that the paper was just ridiculous and that it should not of being set that way in the first place.

    That bit about no question of asking students to re-sit is really strange, after 3 yrs of dealing with the institue I am no wiser as to what they mean half the time. Could you email acassi and ask them?

    Any chance you could forward the email on, or just post it in its entirety? No question of asking any students to resit the exam?:confused:

    Cheers. Don't know about anyone else but that's going to my training manager tomorrow. Let him figure out what the hell it means.

    If your manager works out what it means please let us know, as mine had not got a clue what to make about it.

    Was talking to the Institute about it this morning. Of course between themselves and ACASSI they made a complete balls of things with the wording.

    What it's supposed to mean, so I was told, is that there won't be a strict pass/fail on the 50% mark, people who are falling just short of 50 will have there papers reviewed again and the Institute will do their best to mark you up, rather than down. Basically if you're there or there about the mid forties, chances are you could pass. But if there's no way you can make it then you fail as normal.

    thanks prinz, that makes a lot of sense! i wonder, will it be the case that people either get 45 or 50 and nothing in between?...

    As someone who sat ACCA Exams just wondering what happened here. Do ACA students not get to bring in there books and notes to the exam?

    This was the first year ACA students could bring books into exams. What happened was much of the questions/requirements had not been covered either in lecture notes or the books. Hence the books were usless.Some of it was not on the course outline. Just a rotten set of exams really..

    Sounds like they made a real mess of it all right. I would have thought that the whole course/syllabus would have to be on the one text book!
