A Trade In Question

    Guys,

I have a 03 BMW 525d Sport (77k) and I was thinking of getting rid of it. I spotted a really nice 03 Mini Cooper S (45k) at a dealer near me and have really taken a fancy to it. Judging by current market values online, it seems both cars would be worth around the same amount. Anyone any suggestions how I'd get the best deal in a trade in?

I'd be surprised if the dealer will give you a straight swap being honest. It will be alot easier for him to shift the Mini than it will be to sell the BMW IMO.

Sell privately, buy privately would be the cheapest way. Or you could see what the garage want to change and decide whether it's worth the convenience to you.

Yeah was thinking both of the above. My car has a couple of 'issues' with it so I'd part with a little bit but not too much. Selling my car privately may take some time, time in which the Mini will probably be gone! :(

I think you just answered your own question there. It will be the exact same situation for the dealer. Plus he has to reapir your car, service it and give a warranty with it to sell it. Also the fact that it is >2.0 litre means most Irish buyers will shy away from it.

So any suggestions what I should do? Take a hit on the value of my own car?

Either that or sell your own car privately and find another MINI. It's really down to cost vs convenience.
