Converting old outbuildings into office / therapy rooms?

I've just finished first year of college, with three more to go so i'm planning ahead. When I qualify I want to have my practice from home and I have a couple of options I think I could look at.

My mother's old home has several old stone outbuildings and I just wondered what would be involved in using them as therapy rooms ... even the just the bigger one?

I'm almost a complete novice when it comes to this kind of thing so I thought I would ask in here!

What would my first step be? Would I need pp to convert the outbuilding into a workspace?

    Thanks ..

I would of imagined that you'd need a little bit of professional expierence before you start up your own practise.

The answer is yes you would require planning permission for change of use. I would suggest that you go and talk to your local authority.

the building (and ancillary spaces, car park etc) would need:

    1. to have planing permission for change of use
    2. to conform to building regulations (including fire and disabled access)
    3. to be granted fire safety certificate
    4. possibly need to be accepted by the local health officer
    5. (depending on use) possibly need to be accepted by local occupational therapist.
