    The 002 is discontinued.

All New 003s come with PT Software.

yeah..(sorry, just sorta had to go wah!!)..twas reasonably expensive allright, and it almost killed me not having it for the month..i sent it over when the dollar euro rate was quite good though..

Oh yeah, to the op, you do see them popping up for a good price on ebay from time to time..

Yep, i had a MOTU 2408 modded by BLA about two years ago, excellent stuff but worked out rather expensive, i actually wish i didnt sell it now :(

The best way to go get a mod done by BLA (if you dont already have it) is to buy it off ebay in america and have it sent to the lads from the windy city!

And there new 3 options for the 002/3's are very good but damn pricey,

It might be better in the long run to just get an 002 + Apogee A/D combo though, bypass the crappy focusrite converters (I know its rather expensive but Apogee hold there value and seem to be a very poppular choice for studio's, and i don't think you'll need to upgrade for a long while.

Yeah, i just got it done rather than going that route and having to buy the pres and a/d..the rack would probably be nicer looking had i gone the other way though..

Apogee are great, I would never advise someone not to buy Apogee. Most studios I know have Apogee.

    Here's a 2nd hand 002/Pro Tools 7 for sale... Might be worth a look.

FWIW, I have an 003/PT LE 8 & it ticks all the boxes for me. If I was buying from scratch again, I'd get the new 003 rack+ (it has 8 built-in pres.... which may/may not be enough to record a full band/drums live... depending on how you mic the kit).

The focusrite Octopre sounds better than the pre's in the 002, not sure about the 003 though. The Octopre can be connected optical in to your 003 and has dynamics and bass roll off, a very versataile unit I love it for some things.
