I think I've killed it

I have a Creative ZEN mp3 player which I think I've cooked having plugged it into the USB port on a SHARP mini system. When I plugged it in it switched on but it got very hot and then switched off. Now it won't switch on at all. When I hook it up to the pc it doesn't switch on but there is a flicker from the screen and nothing else. Is it fooked or can it be repaired?
    Any help greatly appreciated.:(

If you're still under warranty contact creative...because your description implies that the ZEN is very dead...might not be though...

    Thanks Mactard,
You're probably right that it's dead.
I think it's about two years old now so probably well out of warranty.
Just thought I'd ask before binning it.

    You'd never know Mactard - here's hoping.

    Thanks koth,
It's an 8Gb player like the one in this link.

Have you had a look here??

The thing to be mindful before you give it a try, is that if it works you'll lose the music on the device.

    I'll give it a go.
Far as I know I have copies of everything that was on it.
    Cheers koth.

    No joy I'm afraid.
The pc isn't recognising the device.
I assume it's not able to switch on.

Have you tried using the reset button on the device??

Does the screen do anything when you try the reset??

All I'm getting from the screen is a constant flicker, maybe three times a second, while it's hooked up to the pc, as if the player is trying to switch on.

I've just checked and holding in the reset button does stop the flicker but it doesn't appear to do anything else.

I'd hazard a guess that the mini system overcharged the battery and the insides got a bit fried.
