Keys cut for early VW Type 2.

Dose anyone know of someone familiar with VW keys? Looking for one cut for late 50ies Type 2. There is similar 3 digit number on the ignition switch and driver door lock. I tried the local locksmith who is quite experienced with modern auto but couldn't make head or tail of this one.

I take it you have no original left that can simply be copied?

I bought a key blank for my '74 bus from Martin Murray (VW Eirespares) and brought it to the locksmith just off Merrion Square in Dublin (I was working there at the time) with the original key that I had. They cut the new key from the code on the old one as opposed to copying the old one, the profile looks slightly different but works a charm.

That link Macplaxton posted looks like they know their stuff. Might be worth a punt...

Cheers for all that, not too worried about autenticity of the key at the moment, just want to start the thing after so mant years.

You could try MSL for the key code from the chassis number, works very well for Mercedes may work for VW keys.
