im hearing rumours everyday. talk of a 10% pay cut across the board, apparently thats whats been recommended. i know its only rumours but it has me quite worried. i also hear that the rent allowance recieved by some, AGS etc is going to be hit?can they do this, if they were to take 10% and rent allowance it would be a massive hit, especially with the money people are down since the start of the year, some cases you would be talking nearly 30%of someones wages!!

Yes i also heard this from a credible source. Very scary indeed. A lot of people would be seriously struggling financially if not alreadly so.

Don't know about you guys but if you ask me we've already been hit twice with the 2% wage levy and then the pension levy. You mention a 10% pay cut...it'll be disastrous and a real kick in the nuts for all members, morale will hit the floor. And then we have the sparkies getting a 4% pay RISE...WTF???!?!!?!? There we are with an increase in the number of assaults on Garda members and being pretty much penalised for having a job with the introduction of the pension levy. I have a very big mortgage to be worrying about and if anyhing it's a pay increase that I need not "another" cur. If it comes in I'll be onto my local GRA rep if they take another penny of us...and so should ye! Remember strength in numbers!

strenth in numbers will make the biggest impact to weather the Gardai get hit with a paycut.

My advice would be for the Gardai to go on massive strike making sure they are not hit with more cuts.It would be intresting to see the reaction from the goverment.

Rememeber the Gardai are the people that keep streets peacful and implement the laws that are in place for a society to function smoothly.

If anyone they should be cutting are the people who got us into this mess, developers bankers political partys in power who used policys and shortcuts that everyone new where going to cause distress a few years down the line.

It would be a shame as has been mentioned in privious post to cut the people who risk there lives to increasing attacks, blood diseases, injury.

lastly i hope members of the gardai dont fall into the goverments hope of everyone in the same boat start fighting with each other over scarppy leftovers. well they sit back and escape the public outcry thats needed.
Id like if the Gardai looked at the most recent increase in wage protests by the electricians. As is the same for electricians are society needs gardai for our society to function properly and as a whole.

I hope the members of the gardai show this in form of protest if they do to decide to cut them again.

The goverment will not no what hit them.

in reply to the last post

    1. the gra is a representative association, its not a union and is not recognised as one

    2. The gra provides many useful services like free legal representation to members

    3. the gra cannot organise or encourage strike action as this is an offence under the garda siochanna act 2005.

    4. any member unhappy with the service provided by the gra can cancel their subscription

    5. and finally, an assocaition is only as strong as its members, and those who complain most about the assocaition are the same people who dont bother to attend gra meetings in their district or division.
