All NV optics are legal. The difference is you need a certificate to purchase and own Gen 3 or higher. Though if you have the money to get Gen 3, you probably have a perfectly practical reason to get them and their certificate. You can get Gen 2 without a cert in a good optics store. You'll pay for it though.
There's a big difference between the junk you get with that game and actual quality Gen 1 optics. Unless you're spending €200+ for that "special edition", I wouldn't expect to get anything useable. They'll be fun around the house, and handy for a Halloween costume, but naff all else.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭mle1324

The way that i looked at it first was that they would be better then nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

considering it also covers both eyes, i would rather keep my field of vision

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Actually I'm pretty sure your eyesight, when fully adjusted to the dark, would be more effective and a lot less bulky.
Without having them I can't be sure but I reckon these are either a basic CCD (or worse still, CMOS) sensor with a ring of IR LED's (which will light you up like a Christmas tree to anyone else using proper NVG and anyone sharp enough to spot the dull red visible glow they emit) or a Starlite hybrid with some extra bits to make it fancy.
My money's on option A, but there's also a chance it's just a cheapo set of low quality NVG.

Whichever it is, I'd sooner rely on my naked eyes.

Ill spend the 80euro on it all the same!:pac:

Fair enough, it might be a nice wall hanger. It's the same as when
Halo 3 released though. They had the "ultimate edition" with the helmet and the books etc included with the game for €120 or whatever it was. Loads of people bought it and a month later eBay was clogged with people flogging the extras because they realised they didn't really want them and wanted
money back. Same thing will happen with this. You'll catch these available seperately by the bucket come December/January.

Marketing hype is teh ub3r 1337.

The game itself is gonna be 60 minimum, it'll be good and all that, but I'm gonna wait for a better price. Bioshock 2 will last me till then...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 859 ✭✭✭StevieGriff

60 minimum? Where the hell do you buy your games..?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

That's quite likely. €60 is the average price of a new Xbox game these days. So that'd mean €60 for the standard edition, say €80 for the shiny metal tin version and (at least) €100 for the bigger version again. I say that conservatively, I reckon it'll be a lot more for that super-duper-hype pack. How much was the Halo one with the helmet when it came out? €150? More?

Anyway, going wildly off topic here. Those NVG's would be nothing only a hindrance in a skirmish. By all means get them if you want them, but I'd very seriously advise against using them. Also, if you're getting that big box partly because you think they would be useful, bear in mind that Aldi and Lidl do usable NV monoculars from time to time for around the €100 which, I believe (though I stand to be corrected) are compatible with the Rhino mounts for some helmets.

As an owner of gen 1+ with mounting rig, don't waste your time! I used mine for 5 min in senny, ditched them, useless in all situations for any combat. Was only usefull for walking back to the car @ 4am and at that a light would have been better.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭mle1324

so basically Gen 1 NV goggles are a load of sh!te?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

    no, the just have limitations

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Just seen these... what a joke, probably 3 times the price of equivalent nv... headmount = neck strain,w atch them just be green tinted goggles :P

Infinity ward said its gunna be roughly 150USD.

Since when do you need a cert for any NV gear? If you have one that is designed to be mounted on a firearm you need authorisation from your Super.

Game is €50 on the PS3 (someone gave me a preorder of it for my birthday)

They look ****, you can see what looks like a ring of IR LED's on the front of them. Don't expect anything thing other then a nice orniment.

Lets keep the top vaguely airsoft related!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

Since Gen 3 or higher went semi-restricted. Ask andy_g, he uses them professionally on occasion I believe so he knows the INS and outs of the higher end gear.

Restricted in the US for export but haven't heard of anything coming in to law here restricting it.

    For **** sake.

Clearly they wont be any use....but since when has 70% of our kit actually been useful...and not about looks : /

They would look sweet strapped to a helmet...and as he said orginally, its better then nothing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭mle1324

Do many people use NV when playing night games or just there naked eye?
And yea they would still look deadly for looks but looking at this thread to me if you do want a good pair of NV goggles would would have to spend a good few hundred.

At 100 euro or a little more, why would they be a bad idea? they look realistic, which lets be honest, is the whole point or Airsoft.

Lots of people spend far more than that on things that look realistic and yet have no function at all, My Armour chassis cost more than that and it just looks good... my milticam uniform cost quite a bit more than that, and all it is, is a clothing.

I've been waiting for this game to come out for a while, I'm sick of bashin Germans and using guns that were made by people who built steam engines but i'll defo get the night vision pack, just for the look. could even get me wet suit on and dye grey bits in me hair, and talk to me imaginary friend, Lambert.

Oh, and Soap McTavish's head is in there, what more could ya want?...

Bit of lipstick and soft lighting, crack open a bottle of wine and you're set for the evening.

Bad NV is like trying to walk around on a green snow storm while suffering from tunnel vision and one of your eyes has been poked out so you have no depth perception.

If it does have a rig of IR LED's which it looks like it has you will look like a cyclopes to the other team from a mile away and be lit up like a a Christmas tree to anyone with NV gear.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

To be realistic though, that is the case with most NV in the sub 400 quid range.

Probably, apart from the cyclopes bit. I doubt the Infinity NVG would stand up to being out doors much either and potential not hold up to being bounced around on someones head for long either.

If the game is 50 then your paying a premium of 100 for something that if you paid 50 more you would probably do allot better. May not look as cool though!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

the only readily available and affordable NV for sale in ireland is Gen1, and even that can be up to 400 quid mark. therefore none of them are going to be particularly useful in airsoft. i have 2 sets of Gen 1, one costing nearly 350quid and the other was 100 from lidl, both are equally gimmicky for airosft. the appeal to this COD one would be the fact that its head mounted and realistic looking, easily worth the 100blips in my opinion.,

I think it comes down to whether or not you were planning on getting the game anyway. Personally I am, and I do tend to go for the collectors edition of games that I am really looking forward to and expect to be epic, Fallout 3, Halo 3, I'll probably get the collectors Edition of Halo ODST when it comes out, I just like doing that sort of thing, I love the art books and other little things you get with those games. I have my doubts about the durability and suitability of those NVGs for airsoft, I'll probably give them a go but I won't be surprised if they're extremely shoddy.

Basically, if you were planning on shelling out the extra bucks on the collectors edition just because you thought you'd get a set of NVGs for airsoft then I'd say prepare to be dissapointed, but if you were planning on getting the fancy edition because you like the game, and think the game designers deserve a pat on the back in the form of some extra money, plus you like collecting random (and mostly useless) crap then go for it.

I hope there wasent anyone actually thinking of buying this just for the NVGs. I would be tempted to buy it because of all the other stuff you get with it but probably not. I would rather just get the normal game.

Yeah think about that there is no chance of these being used for airsoft really although I think everyone knew that from the start anyway

On Play the "hardened" version is 90 euro nearly twice the price of the stand alone game.. so expect a hefty premium for the Elite version, that's if they even release it here, they could easily restrict it's shipping areas..

60 minimum? Where the hell do you buy your games..?
emm hes right the game will be about 60 or maybe 55 if your lucky but only for a short while (remember it is cod6 and it will have a huge demand)

This thread looks a lil old but here is teh deal on the MW2 Prestige edition, In Ireland, its a gamestop exclusive, and each store is getting 8 copies, Pre orders were taken last week and gone within the hour, This is believed to be the most exoensive stand alone xbox game when its released, Prestige edition or not, Looking at around 70 for the basic game, 90 for the hardened edition, and the only price im sure of (cause i put down a deposit last week and managed to secure a copy!!! ) is the prestige edition and its going to retail at €150, all in all, even if the nods are a paperweight its still a nice collectors edition!
