    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how I go about finding out if a product has a patent or not. I have seen a product recently that I could knock out a few of(10 or so) every saturday. I could probably make about a small profit on these by selling them cheaper than the ones I have seen(which seem to grossly over priced when compared to the price of the materiels).

Basically, I need to know if the other product is patented as I don't want any funny legal business down the line.

    Any info gladly appreciated.

    Thanks

You need to do a patent search. Try freepatentsonline or Google Patents to see if someone has done it before.

    Hi,
If your not making big money on these products it's highly unlikely that any company will go to the legal expense of pursuing you for infringing on their patent (if they bothered patenting their product in Ireland in the first place- I assume you will only be selling product within Ireland).

Google patents are only for US patents as far as I know. I've been told www.espacenet.com is the place to go for international patents.

I think most patent attorneys will give a first consultation at no charge. I have also been told that the people in the Irish patents office are quite helpful.

    Best of luck

European trademarks and designs office - you can search the trademark and design database for free... not the most user friendly site, but i suppose it is designed for patent and trademark lawyers!
