    Hey Folks,

Apologies if this has been dealt with before, but has anyone had any issues with your iphone not picking up (or dropping) a wireless network much easier since upgrading to OS 3.0? And if so how do you cure it?

Absolutely no issues here, people think its a software issue though.

riiiiiight, so where're these issues addressed? Have you seen it happening before?

I certainly haven't noticed any issues.

I would typically connect during the day, plus I have left the iPhone streaming audio for hours on end without problems since the upgrade.

    I'm on a 1st Gen, btw.

Yea, i've this problem. I have the new Iphone with 3.0 showing 1 bar on wifi beside my old ipod touch running 1.1.1 with full bars.

Maybe it is displaying a more true quality of signal. I did the same recently, same spot, speed tested with my laptop, 3gs and touch and barely any speed difference. Try the speedtest app if you dont believe me!

Yep happened to me, noticed it about a week after I installed 3.0 and then I could't get any wireless signal at all. Had to contact apple about getting a replacement phone. They had one to me by 10am the next day.

A lot of sites are claiming that it's down to Bluetooth. Switch it off and see if your WiFi works any better.

Just last night my (jailbroke) 3GS started dropping the wireless connection at home.

Trying it now in the office, and although it's seeing three bars in the settings window that displays wireless networks - it keeps reverting to 3G when I close it.

Also last night at home my signal dropped to "No Service" while I was looking at it - never seen that before.

Only changes recently were installing SBSettings and Tris (tetris). Very curious. Might consider doing a full restore if it keeps up today.

Yeah tried switching off the bluetooth but no joy, still happening.

I followed the advice of a poster on another thread (can't find it) and rebooted the phone properly. Since then my wireless issues went away.

A reboot is different to powering off. You hold down the home & sleep buttons until the "slide to power off" bar appears - but ignore it and keep holding until the phone boots down itself (the apple logo appears).

Just tried this. Previously I was missing calls even though the phone was showing a signal and it is was not connecting to WiFi.

It is still not connecting to wifi.

I found the answer on another site.

When the phone goes asleep, it switches to 3G just for push email notification.

You need to do the opposite if this (below) and set the auto lock to never.

When you’re not using the iPhone, make sure it’s locked and put into sleep mode by pressing the Sleep/Wake button. This can preserve battery. If you do not want to lock it manually, you can go to Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock and set the interval (usually it’s set to 1 minute) to auto-lock the iPhone.

dingding, I'm a bit confused as to how this fixes dropping wireless signal while using the phone. Is that fix to do with dropping wireless while the phone is 'asleep'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,985 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

Mine just drops it regardless of whether it's just woken up or if I've been using it for a while. BTW I tried the hard reboot and no joy.

Only seem to happen since ver 3.0 came out

Only when it is asleep. When it is running i.e. not locked the wifi should stay up.

This has not fixe it for myself either.

I have mine on the 3 network (an italian phone - unlocked)

the signal shows 3 network coverage but the phone does not answer and i can't make a call or send a text.

I reset the network settings as mentioned in a previous thread on vodafone. I will see how it goes.

if the iphone is jailbroken download insomnia off cydia this keeps the wifi on even when the phone is locked , i use this to download off youtube and its very handy cause it used to sometimes takes few seconds for the wifi to turn back on after unlocking it
