DIY Hair Dye Question?

I'm male, blonde to brown hair. When I let my beard grow, it go's ginger but I have brown body hair so I'm not ginger. Anyway, want to dye hair blonde, beckham blond not bleech blonde. Done it before a few years back and it went orange. I just want to know would it be possible to test the dye on my beard first. Just dye a little of my beard hair just to see if the colour works so I can be sure it wont go orange again and if it dosent work i can just shave my beard. I pretty much shave my head so the length of my beard hair would be similar to my head hair.

Also any recommendations for hair dye. Do I just get a lady one or are there men hair dyes in supermarkets.

Sorry if I sound like a retard, I kinda feel like I'm behind enemy lines here :D

I wouldn't if I were you. They are different types of hair so will not give the same results.

Why not try it in the hair that is going to be dyed? Just snip off a little bit, tie it with a piece of cotton and do a strand test. It tells you how in the box.

Often the hair will go the 'wrong' colour if the wrong colour dye is used to start off with or if you use a blonde shade but don't leave it on long enough.

Use a 'lady dye'. Perfect 10 is the latest pretty good one and it only takes 10 minutes to develop. Avoid anything at all with the name 'Golden' in it...that seems to mean 'strawberry blonde' for my hair anyway!

    Good luck!

    Cheers for that.

So this strand test is explained on the back of a box of "Perfect 10"?

Also, I would like to dye my beard. Its not a big beard. Could I use the same stuff or would it effect my skin.

I wouldn't chance it on your beard, the level of chemicals in it may scald the face off you. There are specific dyes for beards that you can get though, I remember seeing them in Boots awhile back.

    Cheers, might check that out.

Tbh for the amount of hair I have (almost shaved) maybe a full on hair dye aint the way to go. I would be dyin my hair every 3 to 4 weeks, don't want to go bald or anythin.

Are there any things like "Sun-In" around these days. Ya know, sprays that will lightly bleech your hair.

Sun-in's definitely still around, saw that there recently in Hickeys Pharmacies. If you're going down the bleach road for the beard, maybe try some of teh ones that women use to bleach facial hair like Joelen or the Boots own brand? They come with accelerator creams usually so don't need to be left on as long as neat bleach would, and are generally a bit kinder to the skin :o

Cool, good idea. About the Sun-In though. I remember it (bout 10 years ago) being crap and not really working. Also you needed good sun for it to work and good sun in itself is sometimes enough to lighten my hair. Is Sun-In any good these days or is there somethin better?

Yes the instructions for the strand test are in the box. If you are going to do the test then put a bit on your beard too at the side somewhere where you can trim it/shave it off if it looks yuck!

I used Sun In too (back in the day :D) and got orange hair!

    Please don't use Sun In!

I'm not pushing Perfect 10 but it comes in a container with a comb attachment thing so you can actually comb it through your hair, thereby leaving some of your natural colour, making the whole lot look more natural. There are a few brands out that have this.

There's another good one by Loreal called Excell 10 but I can't find a link for it. This link has a picture of the box and you can see the comb thingie on it.

Cheers for that Curvy but I really don't have alot of hair. Like I get a 2 blade on the sides and 3 on the top so usin a proper dye like Perfect 10 would probably be the wrong think I'm thinkin, might be bad for my scalp too considering how little hair I have and I get a cut every 3 weeks also, so would be expensive too if I kept dying.

Do you know of anything like Sun-In I could use. Since my hair is so tight maybe some kinda spray bleech like that would do the job?

Spray bleach  I'm sorry but I don't. And to be honest I'd be tempted to head to the hairdressers if you have so many concerns and let them do it. Don't matter if you have 20 or 2000 strands of hair if it looks orange/out of condition/badly dyed/etc :D

    Good luck!

Well not so much as a "spray bleach" but just something that isnt as fussy as a full on hair dye, somethin along the lines of Sun-In but that actually works.. Maybe I could just take a "little" of the Perfect 10 and apply it. I have so little hair that maybe I could just rub it in with my hands while wearing gloves or somethin. But maybe Perfect 10 is something you have to use once you open it and ya cant just take small amounts now and again, I dunno.
