Skirmish - Modern Weapons Only?

This was something I've been wondering for a while now. I am planning on going to a skirmish at some stage in the future, but currently I only own a WE Luger. I am also interested in buying a Kar 98k.

As you may have noticed, these are both WW2 weapons (just have a particular interest in this area). Do skirmish sites require you to have "modern" weapons so as that it will fit in with the setting, as running around with a Kar 98k and Luger when you're up against M4's and Desert Eagles would be a bit unrealistic.

I am planning on buying a rifle soon, just so as I know in advance wheter to buy a more modern weapon and hold off on the 98k for a while.

    Thanks.

Hell no. Take whatever gun you feel like using. The only restrictions you might come across would be if you joined a team. As some of them have specific loadouts.

There may be games in the future which are based on WW2 or Vietnam scenarios (There may already have been some?). But I have a feeling that it would be hard to get enough people with the right gear in Ireland together. Mainly because the sport hasn't been around long enough.

If this is the gun you are getting, it may be a bit impractical for skirmishing. Due to the shell eject you would definitely need a shell catcher. Or else you would spend all your time looking for your spent shells. You will also need enough shells to last for a full game. If you bought 30 extra shells (Roughly 80 or so Euro), that still will hardly be enough to last a full game. So you will need to reload those empty shells during the game.

If your looking to skirmish youo should get an aeg, far more practle unless you were looking to go sniper. If you did decide that, shell eject would be a pain.

maybe you could get a aeg for skirmish and the kg98 for plinking or whatever

Echoing the above, the Kar98k is a nice rifle but useless in a skirmish simply due to that shell ejection system. There are replicas of modern pistols and shotguns that suffer from the same problem. An electric rifle is generally the standard skirmishable rifle, with bolt action the preserve of snipers and gas rifles only beginning to make an emergence in an affordable form.
You can, however, get an electric rifle and still indulge your WW2 passion. There are a couple of companies doing MP40's and the rather excellent looking new Stg44. By all means get a Kar98k if that's your interest, it's a fun rifle to use and looks well (though it could do with a bit of ageing, it looks too new) but to skirmish you should consider an electric rifle.

I think there is a Tanaka Kar 98k that holds 10 pellets in a cartridge, which would solve the problem you guys speak of I guess.

I have never done a skirmish before, so I didn't realise how many pellets are normally fired, or how long a skirmish would last.

What if I did opt for the sniper role with that rifle? Would it be practical then? I have some people say that there isn't really a need for snipers in skirmishes, especially since there is a cap with the 1 Joule limit.

The Tanaka is quite a bit above our 1 joule limit afaik, shame too, because I really like the look of it, they're also quite rare though, since I don't think Tanaka make them anymore, or so I heard.

Sniping within the limits set by the 1 joule law is possible, it takes a lot of skill though. I wouldn't recommend it for the beginner player. You'll have more fun at your first skirmish with an AEG, once you get a bit more of a feel for the game then you might decide that sniping was your true calling, but limiting yourself to such a specialised role right at the start would be a mistake imho.

Sniping in airsoft under the 1J limit is more about fieldcraft than anything else. I've seen lots of people with sniper rifles but only a handful that I'd consider to be actual snipers. Sniping also isn't what most beginners think it is. Most beginners who insist on getting sniper rifles first tend to get frustrated and sell them off very quickly for electric rifles. My advice would be pick up an AEG for your skirmishing choice and the likes of a Kar98k for target shooting until you get used to skirmishing.
The Tanaka Kar98k is a bloody nice gun but it's quite pricey. I can't comment on the performance because I haven't used one but I'm sure I remember someone on here having one. It would be more practical in a skirmish than it's cheaper shell ejecting counterpart, though I don't know how it would perform
as a sniper rifle against the likes of the modern looking VSR, BAR10 and L96.

    Edit: Spetz jumped me.

I may hold off on Kar 98k for a while so, at least until I have a few skirmishes. Thanks guys.
