    Hi all,
looking at an Open Meriva (1.6) at the moment as an upgrade from a Yaris - the two kids are getting bigger so need need more space, wife needs bigger boot to carry all that shopping, safer (as in the kids aren't sitting on the back window).
My Yaris is 00 with 75k miles and the Meriva is 05 with 25k on the clock. The dealer is offering 3,000 for the Yaris on trade-in and the Meriva has a tag of 7995 so getting it for 4,900 or thereabouts. The Meriva is NCT'd till mid 2011 and looks fine.....
Anybody got any bad stories with the Meriva? It'll just be used for school runs/shopping etc so no great milage. How does the deal sound?
    Cheers.

    hi op

if you go to Whatcar.co.uk you can read up their reviews on it
    and also owners reviews...
Good luck with it if you purchase.

I had one (1.7 diesel) on hire for 2 weeks last year. Not a bad car. Should be sufficient

TBH I found it a horrible drive. Had a hire car for a week and while it was fine for small trips anything that took longer than an hour was a killer due to the very uncomfortable driving position. That could have just been me but I never drove a more uncomfortable car. The best thing to do it take one for an extended test drive if you can. Horses for courses and all that.

Would a 1.6 in a bar which is basically a supermini not be impossible to sell afterwards?

To be honest i think you'd be better off getting a bigger car, golf, leon, octavia, an estate car maybe.
Think you could do better im not a fan of opels to be honest. Can't get comfortable in them no nice driving positions astra aint bad.

What about a seat altea bit of a people carrier. But not much.

You'd sware i worked for vw!
But if the big boot is all you want......

    +1

Had one as a rental too. Not bad for a budget mini-MPV. OP is getting a reasonable deal too. Perhaps get as long a warranty out of the dealer as you can?

The Meriva is based on the Corsa platform and running gear. 1.6 litre petrol engine is from the Astra/Vectra/Zafira so there should be no surprises.

Nice car, my dad has one and we all cringed when he bought it (it's fugly). It's comfortable, modern and the view is great. Drives well too, although the clutch is a bit sensitive.
