    Im not a petrol head at all but id say them old skool diesels would give more trouble than they are worth at this stage, what with clocking up 340,000 miles and all.......:rolleyes:

    OP, I don't know know of any specific problems on the E39 2.5 TDS, but in general they were a pretty well regarded engine back then with competitive power, torque and economy for their class.

    The engine will also be simpler than a modern 530d e.g. no common rail, simpler (and cheaper!) injectors etc. etc. Biggest drawback will be that the TDS will be probably harder on diesel despite having nearly half the power and torque.
