Airport Extreme Performance

Just trying to get an idea on the performance of copying files across a network.

I've an 24 inch Imac and Macbook Air running on the same local network at home. Both are connected to the latest airport extreme model using wireless. Copying files from one machine to the other appears to be fairly slow i.e. Vista style performance.
I was previously using a netgear router that was on its last legs and had the same problem. I also had a white macbook before the macbook air and the same sluggishness in copying files was present.
To give you an example, i've just copied 60mb worth of files from the macbook air to the Imac and its taken just over a minute to copy the files.
All three devices are in the same room.
    Opinions?

You never said if you where running 802.11n on the base station or not?

Look at 'Network Utility.app' in utilities and check your link speed.
    For me running N with G-compatible on 2.4Ghz I get 130 Mbit/s (MacBook Pro)

    If I run full N at 5GHz I get ~300 Mbit/s (It's been a while).
However my need to support G devices means I have to keep it at 2.4Ghz

I'm not familiar with the I/O speeds of the Air, especially if it's not using an SSD drive.

Its the new model of the router i.e. dualband 1 band for N devices, a separate band for G/B devices. On both computers, link speed is approximately 270Mbit/s.
