    Pros:
*Free applications (not legal though so not reccomended)
    *Themes
*Music/Videos available to download free and viewable in dTunes
*Plenty of 3rd party applications, tweaks and ringtones.
*Download YouTube videos with MX tube (I think)

    Cons:
    *Can slow down iPhone/iPod
*iPhone can freeze or break while jailbreaking
*Warrenty void if you can't get rid of all remininants of jailbreak

    I did the jailbreak and unlock y'day(iphone 3G S, O2 16GB) - was sooo easy using 'purplera1n'. No probs with o2, vodafone and 3-sim.
Like the personalisation that is available(especially 'categories' tgat lets you organise your apps in folders.)! The additional features in Safari; etc etc...

Friend tried it 1st, and he had not probs restoring via itunes.

I haven't noticed any slowdowns. winterboard crashed a couple of times, but that was my fault - installed a couple of apps that weren't OS 3 ready!

With the recent software update all apps from cydia (like the AppStore) had to be 3.0 compatible. Unlike the AppStore however all the apps in cydia aren't yet compatible with 3.0

    EDIT:

I used redsn0w :) not purple donkey balls or whatever :P lol

I presume there's an easy way to see what's compatible? (sorry for all the qs)

purplerain or donkey balls as some like to call it :D was designed specifically for 3gs, though i heard it does all
but if your just regular 3g on 3.0 use redsn0w
    less then 3.0 use quickpwn
no when jailbreaking itunes must not be on

You need to restore your iPod through DFU mode... Google it!

What's not legal about downloading apps from Cydia? Jailbreaking might be against Apple's terms and conditions, but it isn't necessarily illegal.

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the forum and make sure you use the appropriate mechanism for your device.

What works on an iPhone 3Gs will not work on an iPod Touch.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear, I was reffering to cracked apps got through installous and the like. They ARE illegal. :)

i did all that but halfway through the restore it would cut out and disconnect from my laptop, luckily i was in very bad form when it happened and was getting more stubborn by the min and kept trying it over and over and over and eventually it worked. very random but thank god it worked and i had all my music backed up. dont think il be jailbreaking my ipod touch in a hurry again
