Here is ecoli giving us a preview of the morton mile on Wednesday, we hope to have coverage of this and other events from the night either Wednesday night or Friday, it all depends on whether ecolis pc is compatible with my camcorder :D or not.
We will also hopefully be covering the nationals on the 1st and 2nd of August and much more. So who needs RTE :D
    Thanks for this ecoli

    Nice work lads.

Would be great to get some more coverage of Irish track races up on the net....we could have the Irish flotrack on our hands. Only a matter of time until we're videotaping shirtless workouts and backing them with obscure indie tunes:P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,912 ✭✭✭thirtyfoot

    Good work!!

Derval O' Rourke is talking about doing the 100m flat for her tune up and comeback from injury ahead of the race in Spain at the weekend, so get there early!!!

The weather is looking resonable for the Morton Mile Meet tonight, so a sub 4 clocking should be on the cards.

Hopefully there will be a respectable crowd out there to create some atmosphere.

Anyone with some free time this evening could do worse than go and have a look at some top class international athletes

Now you've gone and cursed the weather! I hope you're proud!!! I'd reckon every day in Dublin for the past week it's been sunny in the morning until about 11, and then it get's sh1te. We seem to have pushed past 11 today but with the schizophrenic weather that is Ireland's that means nothing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭Stupid_Private

Ah but it usually gets a bit better then in the evening. Just part of the joy of living in this tropical paradise island we call Eire.:P

Most results up on www.dublinathletics.com now. They've missed 2 800 races unfortunately. A great night of racing, some great races and finishes. Development 800 was the pick of the bunch for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭RoyMcC

No sub-4 then :( Great turnout for the other track events though.

Performance(s) of the night has to go to Mark Kenneally, 4.08 in the mile, followed by 8.06 in the 3000m .

Lesson of the night - don't celebrate your win until you cross the line... that lad in the 800m lost €25 on that!

I've got a few photos of the night online

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,912 ✭✭✭thirtyfoot

. Development 800 was the pick of the bunch for me.

Fiona Kehoe really dug in and pulled out that one. On at least 4 occasions it looked like Ciara Durkan was going to take the win on the homestraight but Kehoe really dug in. 2:10 was good running for these two as both have PB's of 2:09 so they were there or thereabouts.

The mens 800 was great, the juniors really lauding it. Robinson is great. He lost it but I love his style, never say die and always give it a go. He fell at the National Indoors Senior in Belfast and got up and tried to catch the field and continue. He cuaght the field but was then banjaxed. He is only 18!! He made the classy move at 200m, going from 4th to Alan O' Brien's shoulder in the space of 5m. He blew it but Darren McBrearty never gave up. Whatever they are doing in Letterkenny is working, they have a great crop of halfmilers. We have a junior (Patterson) going to Euro Juniors in the 800m and he was only 3rd junior last night despite running close to his PB, good depth starting to come in at that age

Great shot (number 19) of the pole vaulter Houlihan!!

Over 220 athletes competing last night. Great to see such numbers it's what we need to see on a regular basis

Cheers, I took them all from where I was sitting - If I was there primarily for photos I would have got a bit closer to the pole vault competition and got right in their faces when they were jumping!

Great turn out last night, and fantastic to see such a range of events (I enjoyed watching the pole vaulters).

My only criticism is I think the communication could be better. Last night the schedule was delayed, nothing wrong with that at all (especially given the reason why it was delayed) but it would be nice if they would inform athletes of the changes a bit better. It makes it very hard to judge warm ups otherwise.

It was an excellents nights racing. Extremely enjoyable. However saying that there is nothing wrong with the event being delayed is miles wrong. There is no excuse bar some exploding of spontaneous combustion for a track meet being delayed. Why set a time table if you cant stick to it. Expecting athletes to stay warmed up for or guessing what time they should be warmed up for is really unfair.... and will affect performances. If the high performance team in the aai cared about high performance... races would run on time to give every athlete a chance to pull out a performance. Besides the excellent cork city sports this is the only other international event for track and field in ireland... surely on this one day an extra effort should have been made to run it on time...

well I think last night the reason it was delayed was because so many turned up, more than they were expecting. Maybe it should've been planned better but I can forgive that.

Thing that annoys me though is they dont make any effort to inform people and just expect you to be warmed up. As I said on another thread, have a big board and update it with the schedule and announce changes over loudspeaker in between events.

The other thing I noticed last time is that some races were merged and so the schedule was moved forward. I dont see why they do this? You might get the odd five minute gap here and there but why not just stick to the schedule?

I've only done two meets and I am amongst the slowest runners there so dont want to rock the boat, in general I think they are tremendously well run events, I just feel with one or two minor tweaks they could be a lot better for the athletes.

Agree with you entirely about informing everyone. The board is a good idea but hard to implement. Nick on the mike could easily keep everyone updated....

Also the video quality will improve once its fully processed.

Only messing you have a fair point but I am actually on holidays in Wexford with no connection, only came up yesterday to drop my little brother home and take pics of the 5 miler and poor ecoli has had car trouble and work to contend with. Will sort it out for next time, its a learning experience in time management.

What's the subliminal split second image at the end of the women's 100m clip? Are you trying to communicate hidden messages in your race coverage?! :P
