Sick of recent albums being re-issued

Is anyone else sick of buying an album by a band only for them to re-release is a few months later with added material to shift more units, Live cds, DVDs etc?
This keeps happening, even when there is a limited edition of an album packaged with a DVD the band's still can release a different bonus package (Glasvegas for instance - DVD with original ltd edition, then released the alubm with Xmas album for crimbo - no individual option to buy the album).

Just read now that Friendly Fires are pulling this trick to sell more by repackaging the debut album. I for one find it very annoying, as a music fan that likes having the additional material but not wanting to buy cds twice.

The deluxe edition of Florence And The Machine's album is the one to get mind, the EP they toss on with it is a good listen.

It's extremely difficult to make a living out of music, particularly in this day and age (cliché). Having re-releases and reissues of stuff is a good way for artists to make some extra cash, especially after they become more popular. It's really as simple as that.

    Yeah, fixed your post there.
If it's hard to make a living (whatever your definition of that is) out making music I'd suspect it's due to the overgurgitation of so many rubbish bands. Anyone remember The Others ? They were the next big thing.

As for re-issues, not a huge fan myself in principle but principles go out the window if there's a snazzy DVD with live stuff or interviews and nice artwork. They gotta make them more feckin affordable though. There's some kinda deal with independent/smaller record shops the bigger labels have done so that they can sell em cheaper than the likes of your HMV which is good. I got the Manics' new album a few quid cheaper in Freebird in Dublin. The Manics have two reissues out which are alright, could've been better in that they could've had more interviews and more live video stuff .

The physical medium is dying and no one really seems to give a toss. Not a plug for consumerism but listening to an album on a phsyical disc is better than a some binary noise while browsing the internet.

    Hypocrisy is the greatest luxury.

They are anniversary editions of albums and as such have been remastered etc but the amount of extras thrown on there makes it totally worthwhile to buy - exctra CD and DVD for each, bargain. It's just the newer albums getting re-issued so quick that's annoying. If anything it would encourage me to illegally download it and wait until I know no special edition is being released around festival season/Christmas etc.
