Well maybe if they put together a original design for a jersey they might see more interest but no one style suits all it seems!

does that mean Leinster will get a ssecond change to design their new jersey?

All contracts with clubs had now been cancelled, KPMG said.

Well we might just have to put up with it for just the one season. that is of course assuming that the contract isn't renewed once they find a buyer.

Oh God I really hope it isn't.

I think the Cantebury jerseys are very heavy to wear especially the Irish one, you could never wear then during the summer. They will soon find a auyer though, there a big company.

    Leinster in Rugbytech anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

I'd love that tbh. Or Kukri - though tbh if the current one was to be slashed, i'd pick it up before then as a collectors item ;)

Its a pity they really set the standards during the 90's and early 00's but their designs have barely changed the past 5 years.

It'll be interesting to see if the big hitters of Addidas,Puma and Nike goggle up Canterbury's customers or will the likes of Rugbytech and Kukri step up?

Does no one else think they should go back to the old school jersey... say wc 2003? and a proper irish green not some really dark yoke... its like the AB's playing in navy

Wow thats a lot of teams looking for a new kit sponsor!

Off the top of my head there's:
    Leinster
    Clontarf
    Cardiff Blues
    Dragons
    Scotland
    Glasgow
    Wasps
    Clermont
    Perpingian
    Castres

I wouldn't mind Nike getting the Leinster contract, the Toulouse kit is pretty tasty at the moment.

What happens now? I'm guessing the unfortunate souls(bit much perhaps given the state of the jersey) who bought the Leinster jersey now hold merely a collectors item(I just can't bring myself to say at least it could be a fashion item).

    Kukri FTW.

SA were sporting brand new kit during the Lion's tour even though Canterbury SA had folded months previously.

    No, they're not.

To be honest, I'd say CC new zealand or its other subsidiaries will pick up the bigger deals to keep going. Too much money in it for them to lose, and too much marketting to redo for a new jersey for clubs like Leinster.

Good riddence to them, cowboys the lot of them!

I always found the quality of the Canterbury gear really good. Its a pity to see them go. That Leinster jersey is horrendous though!

nothing wrong with the Connaught jersey - something in that style would be class.

Does this mean things will be going for cheap now?!

+1. I've always really liked Canterbury stuff (even the much-debated current Irish jersey) - It's a real pity to see a long-established traditional rugby brand go under. Is it just European jerseys that will be affected, or other CCC kit sold in Europe like boots, trackies, hoodies etc?

The new Leinster jersey is indeed awful, but I doubt it's Canterbury's fault.

There isn't much originality with Nike or Adidas either (Stade kit aside!!)

I can't understand how this company could get into difficulty and it's relationship with the rest of Canterbury???

The directors of Staunton Sports also control Rugbytech and Rugbytech Europe.

The dark (bottle) green is the traditional colour. That awful Nike dayglo thing from the early nineties started this light green thing if I remember rightly.

By the way - it's not a new thing that kit manufacturers are making the exact same kits for every team just with different colours. It's always been that way, it just didn't matter because the kits were simple. It's all this really intricate detailing they put into them now and then still only have one design template that makes them all look ridiculous. Adidas started this with that awful three big stripes coming over one of the shoulders of their soccer jerseys. The reason was to make an adidas shirt immediately recognisable regardless of the team. All the manufacturers are doing the same now.

It's easier to identify from a distance who made most shirts than what team it is and that's the way the manufacturers like it.

Its not good for Scotland anyway: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/rugby_union/article6703738.ece

Im glad the IRFU changed kit suppliers as well, after reading this. That and since Puma might have some more imagination.
