Late deals - long haul?

    Hey

Myself and girlfriend have 2.5 weeks off in August and not really bothered where we go, but not mad on the usual Europe destinations such as Spain, Portugal etc.

I thought in these times we could get a late deal, on maybe somewhere like the Maldives, Florida, Thailand etc - just want a relaxing holiday and have about €1,500 each to spend on flights & accomodation.

Does anyone know the best websites or travel agents to use for such deals? Would also be open to a cruise. And how do late deals usually work - do you leave it a few days before you go or 1/2 weeks?

    Any advice appreciated.

Myself and my girlfriend had the same budget as you when we went in June.

We went to New York for 4 nights and then flew to Cancun in Mexico for 11 nights. Have to say it was an amazing holiday and great value for money as most of the places in Cancun are all inclusive.

Cancun is really nice I'd highly recommend it. You could always tweak it to something like Vegas and some central American country either i'm sure your budget would cover multiple options.

Which website or operator did you book that with? Sounds good

I booked it in a local travel agents as I know someone in there but it was basically the same price as booking online.

I just looked up www.cheaptickets.com and www.skyscanner.net for the flights and
the usual hotel sites like www.hotels.com for accomodation (and checked tripadvisor etc).

You can book your transfers and insurance easily too.

Mine just worked out well because the cancun flights were working out cheapest with a New York connection, so it was handy to be able to stay there for a few days before getting the connecting flight.

Its just handy then to spend a few days there and get your connecting flight a few days later.

Just something to note, flight availability changes a lot and prices can fluctuate too, so if you see something you think your happy with go for it.
My girlfriend rang me to ask if we could go ahead with our booking and in the meantime the flights were taken, cost us an extra hundred each for alternatives.

You could chance going to a travel agent first and see what they quote you, otherwise go online yourself ;)

    Good luck :)
