infected laptop

    laptop problem , when i turn it on (system security) try's to scan my pc.. but i use norton and now its turned off and none of my files will open ...

    please help im not sure what to do next..

    its windows xp im using.
    also active my desktop recovery warning is shown

    A few qs:
    i) Do you have a backup made of all important data on the drive
    ii) What do you mean "none of my files will open" - what happens when you try to open one?
    iii) Have you got "System Restore" turned on?

    Ive removed similiar viruses using the Majorgeeks malware removal guide. The guide itself is fairly long winded but if you use the following tools to scan and remove it you should be ok

    SUPERAntiSpyware
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    RootRepeal
    combofix
