Thinking of getting away for a while

I don't know if many people have this experience. I work as a debt collector and have my own house. To be honest I worked in tourism before debt collection and it was great. I loved meeting people and enjoyed life. Debt collection brings out the worse in me. It is highly stressful arguing with people who have taken out sub-prime loans in the UK and no intention of paying it back. The office is really cramped and the management really have not a clue how to run the place.

Anyway I am thinking of getting the hell away from it all. Call it running away from reality or whatever but I am thinking of renting the whole house out and going on a holiday to Asia, South America for a few months before coming back or doing volunterring work abroad. Question is are any others thinking the same thing?

Why not go back to tourism?

It's the summer, couldn't you pick up a tour guide job at some local castle or attraction?

There's a link to jobs here:

Well actually I don't see any vacancies but there are programmes

I wouldn't like to do your job and it's probably getting you down.
Before you change countries, maybe have a go at a new job, for the summer at least.

And yes, I don't know how many tourism jobs are out there, you would know that better then most posters here from your past experience

Its just a job - not a nice job but dont take on managagement problems and borrowers problems just do your work and go home and forget about it.

The job market is crap and you have to make a living when you come back.

Debt collection will be a boom industry over the next few years.
There'll always be something to come back to.

Why don't you try some of those exotic volunteering out in the direction you're thinking of heading?
That way you still have something constructive on your CV and it doesn't look like you're running away from the pressures of your current job.

Sounds brilliant to me, best of luck OP :)

Here is a quick fix go work for an NGO in some where like Tanzania. I know a girl who was there for a year. she go the equivalent of the dole overhere and she had more money than she wanted over there. Ask for a Career break, talk to your supervisor, If you are good at your job you can work something out and work will understand. You will come back feeling like a different person.

Thanks folks for this. Some good advise there The job as NGO is something I find very interesting. I am not particularly interested in the money more the experience. I can come back a better man, thinking and doing something positive. Can someone advise where is best to apply when looking for NGO work? I will also look at volunteer work/websites to find what is out there. If anybody knows of a good site or anyone has done some work re this then please pass it on. It would be good to know. Cheers.
