upgrading a bog standard Les paul

    Hi

I recently culled my guitars down from 20 plus to a mere 7.

I had decided that my white stagg les paul was to go and I had superior guitars to it. However, having parted with it I found myself in the distressing position of realizing that I still had feelings for it!!

I managed to do a trade back with the buyer and have now decided to keep it and give it an upgrade I have 2 sets of gibson pickups already having toyed with the idea of pimping up my guitars in the past.

    Any, how long story over.

Having stripped the guitar back to it shell, I am now debating the idea of putting grover tuners on to it and replacing all the electronics as well. I know it won’t ever be a gibson, but I have two of them already. I have a spare grover at home and it is an exact match except for the placement of the screw in section, means I will have to fill in 6 holes on the headstock as well.

Does anyone here know or understand the differences between long / short shaft on the potentiometer 500 pots, I have no idea of these things and while I could buy an upgrade kit on eBay, I would rather source the parts myself and finish this guitar. I am leaning towards these ones available in waltons, but have seen some mention that they don't fit other LP guitars, again as the guitar in question was made in China this might not be the case.

Does anyone have any ideas on which pots etc I should get for this project. I don't really mind the costs so am prepared to buy locally, rather than order from the USA.

Any assistance greatly accepted on this one.

    Many thanks

Long shaft pots come in all US Standard Les Pauls. If I remember correctly the historics have short shaft, as do a lot of Japanese Les Paul clones. As for your Stagg, I really don't know. If you have a US Standard, do a comparison. and see if they are the same. It could also be the case that the Stagg pots are metric.

Hi thanks for that I did take a peek into the electronics of my gibsons but they are all on a framed plate thingie so would have to nearly unsolder them all out to see if they fit the stagg, far too complicated to try.

As for the metric suggestion, how would i find that out for sure?

Was going to try and get one pot in waltons on a sale if doesn't fit basis as I am buying the grover there tomorrow.

Anyhow thanks again for the input.
