    Lads,

My sister has an Acer laptop, the pin in the power port has fallen away. They won't cover it under warrenty and they wouldn't give a price to her for fixing it. Anyone know where I can get it repaired thats not too expensive??

Its a pain in the ass to fix - machine has to be stripped right down to the motherboard the old PSU socket has to be desoldered and new one soldered in and the whole thing put back together. Takes me at least an hour of careful work (I'm sure others that don't put all the screws back are faster) so I'd guess you'd be up for about 120 euro to get it fixed. Its a design fault, you probably knocked it somehow but they are a bit weak in the first place, I've seen a lot with exactly the same problem and the repair bills are sometimes as much as 200 euro.

I've said this to others if you can find someone who can do a careful job on soldering the component they don't have to be a computer engineer to fix it, a mobile phone repair shop or TV repair shop might do it for you much cheaper if you strip it all down and provide the spare part which is available on eBay, just check around first.

The pin in my acer laptop was loose and the adapter broke this guy collected it, then returned it for about €110 great stuff. They even collect from your work place no charge :).
