I suffer from ulcers. I basically can't go hungry for too long or I'll be in bits or even get sick. Anyway my doctor told me to eat before I go to bed but as I am looking to lose some weight at the moment I don't like the sound of this. Is there any good food that I could eat shortly before going to sleep that won't be too bad to eat so late? Bear in mind I'm a vegetarian. Thanks in advance.

Look for food's high in fibre or protein . Do you like apples or porridge? Have a look at this link for ten foods that should fill you up .

Cottage cheese or even a shake made from casein. Casein is a protein found in cottage cheese which takes a long time to digest, so you feel fuller for longer. Combine with a little peanut butter to slow down digestion even more.

    Hey Corb,
I feel your pain as a fellow sufferer..

If it is bedtime snacks then how about a milky/hot drink? Cadbury's Highlights are low cal and can be made with water. Horlicks has both regular and light versions made with water or milk....or Olvaltine...
All bran is great at filling the gap and if you use skimmed milk it should be fine calorie wise. Weetabix or a small bowl of porridge??

Milk is supposed to aid sleep as well as soothing the stomach.

I was told by my doc that a lettuce white bread sandwich is a good bed time snack! Lettuce helps you sleep it seems and the white bread is easy on the stomach. Have not tried it myself mind you!:)

I too had an ulcer about 12 years ago. I went off beer for about 6 months, and cut out coffee, fried food, oil, hot food, spices and chillis (difficult as I lived in Nepal at the time). I basically ate boiled vegetables and plain rice. I also ate custard, which I made with condensed milk and custard powder!! I cut down on tea, Horlicks was available locally, and tried to eat little and often so usually had a small packet of arrowroot biscuits nearby.

When i returned to Ireland, my GP tested me positive for Heliobacter Pylori, which is supposed to cause stomach ulcers. I took some antibiotics for a few weeks, and havent looked back!!

I had an ulcer a good few years ago and I found the best thing at bedtime was a slice of bread and butter with a small glass of milk. It calms your stomach and soaks up excess acid.
When you cut out stuff like crisps and chocolate etc that aggravate your ulcer, you'll find that you'll lose weight anyway - I lost two stone when I had my ulcer.
