Pro Cycling Manager: Tour de France 2009

Just stumbled across it and thought I would share. I'm a big Football Manager fan (guided Nottingham Forest to a treble in 2015 before taking a job at Inter Milan who were rock bottom in Serie A). Anyway, I never ever figured that they would make a cycling management game, but it's been around for a while and I've linked to a few screens from the Tour de France 2009 edition. Looks mad, but apparently crap so please don't buy it. It's more of a freakish curiosity than anything else.

To the mods: Not really worthy of games forum, as only cyclists would be interested.
Pro Cycling Manager 2009 is now available in your favourite video games retailer.

Pro Cycling Manager - Tour de France 2009 lets players experience an action-packed racing season, filled with more than 180 races - including the famed Tour de France and the Spain Tour (Vuelta). At the head of one of the 60 official teams available, or of the team you have custom-created, throw yourself into some of the biggest challenges: win a Tour, shine during the whole season, train a rising star or confirm a great champion -- the challenges are plentiful and allow you to play "your way", either for the glory of becoming a champion, or simply to enjoy racing.

The gameplay footage from the trailer actually looks really weird, like robots cycling, hypnotic in a way:

Is that Raam in pink 4th back at the top of the first photo. If its is its great placement. LA seems to be dropped back there.

I had an old version of th maybe 07, and I loved it. Not exactly a classic game but for a cycling fan there's nothing like winning a big mountain stage or a bunch sprint. Would defo get this if it were available on the Mac.

Steam have this on special until the tour ends. Looks interesting but could get boring really quick.

Can you hook it up to a turbo trainer to play?

I'm sure you could stick a laptop in your car and drive around like a maniac on windy roads for the full on "realism" effect. It's a management sim after all.

So you don't actually cycle to play?

No, you play the role of a cycling manager, so you can oonly give them instructions and plan out tactics. How it plays out depends on the actual riders. I haven't played it, I'm sure one of the lads can explain better, but if it's a management sim like football manager, then you can only influence the players through stirring half time talks and throwing boots at the computer monitor (I have actually had imaginary press conferences in my head while playing FM for extended periods of time).

Methinks there's a gap in the market so.

Yeah you manage, create a few tactics then watch, give a few riders commands at certain times. There's also a track thingy where you control the rider and the faster you press the buttons the faster your rider goes or something, I haven't used that part of the game yet. I'm sure you can download last years version for €10 as opposed to playing this years version for €40, the two will be the same as the graphics are almost the same for every race.

There's a fair bit of involvement in the actual racing you control the effort levels, tactics, positioning etc of the riders during the race. For example you can dedicate riders to protect your team leader thus saving his energy or if you have a rider in a break you can decide to ride up and over or just sit at the back of the group (You even get given out to by the other riders in the group if you do this). The sprints are pretty cool as you can jump around and try and get on the wheel of the fastest guy or if you have a strong team you can give yourself a great lead out.

Well, given that I see people playing tennis on their Wii and what not, it would be great to have something that you could actually ride in.

I want to sprint against Boonen. On the "Easy" or "Beginner" setting obviously.

Good but not great if you like PC games, cycling aside :)

Crap if you don't like cycling :D
