Buying a second hand automatic

I am looking for a second hand automatic for my Mother but im finding it tough to find them. As you can probably guess im looking for a hatchback from 1.0 to 1.5L engine and from 2001 to 2005 reg. I went around to all the local dealers just to see if they had anything on offer and only one dealership had an automatic for sale and it was an 2001 Micra with only 8,000Km on the clock  and I think Micra are a really ugly car I would much rather pay a bit extra for a nicer car like an 206, Fiesta, Corsa, Yaris etc.

The car I really would like to get would be the new model of a Ford Fiesta but there isnt too many around and the one I have linked you seems to be too cheap to be true. I looked at Autotrader and there is a lot more on offer but im worried if I got a car in the UK I would be caught out on VRT.

Does anyone have any advice when trying to find an second hand automatic?

Should I just keep looking at CarZone until one comes up or get one in the UK?

bought the g/f an auto punto 2002 in march for 2 grand car is great for what it is ..... found it in ballymont ind. estate tbh not every car for sale is going to be online . and y buy something from the north at that age it just ant worth it espically when u can get something at a good price down here .....

besides if ur auto box went during the period of guarantee ild imagine there would be a whole lot of hastle trying to get it back up the north after it being registered here

There's very few small Irish cars automatic. If it's a Yaris you want try looking for a Toyota Vitz instead, it's the Japanese version of the car and most are automatic. To be honest a 1 litre Auto is really poor to drive but if she's only driving it in the city it will be fine. You should be able to negotiate a good discount on a automatic as demand would be lower than similar spec's manual cars.

I live quite close to the border so that wouldn't be the biggest problem.

Yeah it would only be for driving around the town, the only time it would do a long journey would be if I took it down to college with me which would be very rare.

I seen some of them Toyota Vitz online alright.

I will probably be going down to Dublin some time next week, where would be the best place to look?

Another good option would be an automatic Honda Civic

Here is a example. Very handy dash mounted gear level.

That Civic isn't a bad idea actually. Any auto I've ever driven with a smaller engine than 1.6 has been dire....the definition of depression.

Opel's "twinport" autos are worse again. a 1.6 BMW 3 series would be okay if you could find an auto one...maybe the compact would suit best.

Something like this is going to be easier to find though.

Sorry but that dash mounted gig would turn me off a car straight away be it auto or manual!

My mother has an 04 Yaris auto. I think it's a 1.4 with a 5 speed box. Bloody awful yoke. With 2 of the 4 gear changes it feels like you're going to go through the windscreen. Bigger is definitely better with automatics.

Really dont like that dash on the Civic.

Where is there a big car dealerships in Dublin as I have gone like I said to my local dealerships and out of about 8 only one and an automatic for sale.

Other places like Airside and Liffey Valley.

my wife had an 03 Fiesta Dura shift - it was an excellent little car - and at least 1000 million times better than the Yaris we test drove ( dreadful yoke ) and a much nicer car than the Kia Picanto my dad has - it feels like a toy yet drinks fuel but your gonna get than from a 1.1 with air con bought for peanuts!

the fiesta was nippy and useable on a daily basis - we even took it on a long run or two and with the fiestas superb steering and well balanced chasis was a hoot to drive on back roads too!

you could look at something like this
