    Recently started a new diet/exercise programme in order to lose weight. Had a good look at most of the stickies both here and the fitness thread. Read about how I should be having snacks regularly.

    I had been eating cashew nuts, but the problem is I think I may have a nut intolerance. Until I'm sure though, I'm trying to have as few as possible.

    Also, I don't like dried fruit. I'm trying to get used to them, as I never used to eat fruit or veg.

    What alternatives are there? Just regular fruit, or would there be something else I could eat as a snack.

    Did you try other nuts like brazil or pines to see if you got the same reaction? Do you get the same reaction to nut butters?


    For snacks i love cottage cheese. Ryvita with cottage cheese or a nut buuer is a win for me. NYOM

    or maybe 2 squares of dark choc like 80% upwards?

    Sometimes a pint of milk willtide me over and it, for me is good combo of carbs and protein to help with my training.

    I'm still unsure if its nuts at all, perhaps I'm just not getting enough fibre since changing my diet. But just to be safe until I get to a GP, I'm trying to cut down a bit on nuts.

    Although crackers and peanut butter might be a good idea. Got some high fibre crackers in Holland and Barretts today, perhaps solve all my problems at once

    I prefer fresh fruit, more filling since it has the water, also takes longer to eat. Apples are good, bananas are higher GI and about 22% sugar, apples & oranges are about 11% sugar.

    Ryvitas are good if you are not near health shops, and usually cheaper.

    If you suspect you have an intolerance I would get to the GP and not eat any nuts at all until sure, including peanut butter and any other products with nuts.
