Im from the whest and a total airhead when it comes to Dublin. Im finally going to register for the Marathon after months of talking about it. In October I plan on coming up on the Sunday morning before the race and hopefully finding the expo and the race start:). Im wondering if anyone can tell me names of hotels near the race start so I could walk to it within 15-20 mins on the morning of the race. Im going to book soon but am clueless when it comes to direction and all that.

Dublin is awash with hotel rooms, should be value out there but book soon I'd say. D4 hotels in ballsbridge might be a good bet. An alternative is staycity.com who do city centre apts for weekends or overnights. That way you can do your own food (if that's a good thing for you).

Anywhere in the city centre will be pretty close to the start on Fitzwilliam Square. Anywhere with the address Dublin 2 is very close. Dublin 4 and Dublin 1 will also be close. After that, it's just up to your budget! :D

What Asimonov says, D4 Hotels. 49 Euro for a twin room, per night. Ballsbridge Inn is around a 1 mile walk to the start, and if you like, you can walk in via the last mile of the marathon (via Grand Canal).
