First Tattoo Questions.. Where?

Hey,

I'm planning on getting my first tattoo soon enough. I'm still in the process of deciding what I want exactly, but it'll be relatively simple, but still decorative, and not too big. Possibly all black.. I'm not sure yet. Also, I'm deciding where I'd get it. I know it's different for everyone but are there any particular areas to stay away from for your first time?

The main reason I'm posting is to ask for any recommendations in Dublin. I've read a few of the threads here and the same few tattoo parlours names appeared. But, based on my rough 'plan' of what I want, any ideas where to go?

Hard to say because you haven't really given any information on the style of tattoo you want. I'd say spend some more time deciding on your design, and as it is your first, keep the design for a bunch of months at least to ensure that you're not going to regret it!

Okay, I had a long message all typed up then the compy went a bit weird and it was lost.. so this might be lacking in the detail of the original.

I've been drawing and planning some ideas and I've come up with a load. One that I had that I really love is a tattoo of Red Sonja. I've loved her since I was little and she represents a lot for me.

If I got her, it'd most likely be on my upper right back. Not overly big, maybe about the size of my hand (any idea roughly how long that would take?). It mightn't be all of her, possibly just a bust type dealy. I've put some links to images I love. I'm aiming to get my tattoo around the start of next year so I'll have the idea for a long enough time to know I'll be happy with it.
Does anyone know where is a good place to get it done?
