    I think you are wrong.

They as they are indepentant from sky you can surely subscribe to ESPN whether you are paying a sky sub or not.

Setanta worked that way and surely ESPN will too.

Correct. A Sky subscription is needed if you wants ESPN via satellite.

A recent article in the Irish Indo claims that ESPN will be €10 for Sky Sports subscribers or €14 per month for standard subscribers.

I don't know where they got the info from, or if it was plucked from thin air.

This means then that either there will be a sperate ESPN Ireland channel for ads and 3pm games or an opt out from the UK service. I am guessing that these 3pm games wont be shown on the HD channel.

Yes I'd say your correct in that Mossy, I'm now wondering who there team will be on the channel - Are Sky to fill that I wonder?

If the pricing mentioned of €10 per month is right(and I'll be surprised if it is) ESPN might be worth a flutter for 79 PL games. The whole ESPN thing though is bad news for any Setanta subscribers who used to just subscribe separately to Setanta using cancelled Sky cards. From my point of view it meant I could watch all the setanta stuff on a separate box so others in family could watch their stuff on the main box.I'll bet ESPN channels will definately have the card matched to the box as well.

If I get ESPN I'll also need multiroom so I'll be able to watch as many matches as possible. So basically €21.99 for Setanta will become €24.75 per month for ESPN(includes multiroom sub). I know I rarely paid full price for Setanta like many others but this is to show what the demise of Setanta means to me and many others in same boat.:(

Your dead right, it no longer says anything about the Irish rights, however, I can assure you that it did up to a half hour ago, I'm sure mossy, widescreen, and manc-red will vouch for that too.

The article seems to have been changed. Earlier it said
So far ESPN’s approach has been very different to that of Setanta, now restricted to Ireland and North America, though ESPN has now also picked up the 3pm Saturday kick-offs that can only been screened in the Irish Republic.

It's serious money for these channels lads. Cancel sky and espn altogether. Listen to them on 5 live and maybe go out for the bigger games if you wish.

    You'd be at least €600 - €700 a year better off...

I have Digitalb who will have all Sky & ESPNs games Live - Cost me €210 quid.

I will get ESPN if they have 3pms (which digitalb wont have) - that will be €180 approx per year + I'll have HD also.

    Well worth it.

Will you need a Sky HD sub to watch ESPN HD or just a ESPN sub and HD box?

A Sky HD sub will be required.

Yes. It will be very expensive if you are not a Sky customer currently. That's for sure.

can't see ESPN getting many subscribers for premiership matches here. a lot of irish viewers are trimming their tv subscriptions due to down turn in economy, lads won't be travelling to as many premiership and SPL games this season either. I guess we'll be heading back to the pubs in droves to watch our fav teams on the box.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,329 ✭✭✭Manc-Red

Went out on Fri for a few and to shoot some Pool - spent 120 quid.

They get the 3pms they'll get the subs here

I read somewhere art has confirmed same amount of games as last season? Thats brilliant value 69e for 12 months EPL (Same as sky and setanta) but in french only!

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,075 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

Art on 13e did not have EPL last season and will not have this coming season either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,148 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

I thought they showed some on the Mahgreb channel? Actually is it the Al Jazeera Sports card you are referring to Snaps?

Between 3-5 games a week, looking at it yesterday - picture is awful must say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

Art showed same games as sky and setanta plus midweek games in French on Art Maghreb 13 east. Picture quality the same as what digitalb was, perhaps a bit better. I can remember watching Spurs v newcastle (carling cup) last season on digitalb, the picture was worst than a stream, couldnt even make the score out. When they lost the 3pms, that was it for me and digitalb. Digitalb are under huge pressure by the FA/EPL at the moment, they took the 3pm games away from them and soon i think their cards will be paired with kaon boxes same as HD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,148 ✭✭✭Ronan|Raven

Hard to know what to do for this season. One thing is for sure with me anyway I will not renew DigitAlb. They seem to be in bother with regards to FAPL this coming season anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

Yes the problem with digitalb is that they cant put the price up much more as Albanians cannot afford it then. I think they will be paired with the Kaon boxes like they did with their HD services.

There wont be 3pms thats for sure - price for a yearly sub is getting way out of hand.

Diema+ ITV Partner on Eutelsat W2 might be worth a gander? They show 3pm games, however I don't believe any of it is in English. Or perhaps Digiturk?

I came across a site selling C+ Scandi cards for a measly £1,200 per annum!

Theres talk on other forums, the main site being alsat, even the "god" darkman has posted threads about the FA/EPL's problems with digitalb.

I cant see what rights/power the FA/Epl have over digitalb over this, Digitalb won the rights fair and square, Just because subs for digitalb are being sold to UK/Ireland residents, thats the way it goes. Not every country can charge what sky charge. Watching digitalb in this country is not illegal, showing it in public places is at the moment (Breaking copyright laws apparently), but that may change with certain acts being pushed through european courts (But im sure we'l see the other side of europe dividing us yet again to suit certain parties, instead of joining us together as one community).

My thoughts are the worst the FA/EPL can do is make digitalb pair their cards to receivers. Digitalb is now well over priced compared to what it used to be 2 seasons ago. This could be their downfall as people will not pay it.

Diema is only in Bulgarian and again overpriced from 3rd parties. Digiturk doesnt show as much EPL as other providers.

That tw@* Darkman gets some serious abuse on another forum I use - remember him being the first last season to state Digitalb would have 3pms from November??? Rip-off merchant he is. 250 pound sterling fo a renewal?? And he says he is the main Dealer??

I don't see any problems other than 3pms for Digitalb next season, If I'm wrong I'll have to retreat to a bottle of vodka lol

Think its going to be Cyfra + HD for me - hows that going for ya?

Ah I can't wait now 'til the big kickoff
