    Hi.
I was made redundant in May, got redundancy package that doesn't exceed 50k therefore I was eligible for dole immediately.
Now I am starting a new job new week, so in total I have been 8 weeks out of work. I haven't received any payment yet though.
I will call the dole office and tell them that I start a job next week. Done this, will I still get the dole (I guess around 1.6k in total) for the 8 weeks i was out of work, or can I forget about it?

    Thank you.

You will get a cheque for the backpay you accumulated while unemployed. You are still entitled to it despite the fact that your claim didn't go through before you found work.

Congrats on the new job and good luck with it :)

    It should be, yeah.

Depending on where you live, the post office might be open tomorrow as well.

I have a question if anybody can answer. O/P, Where did you find out that 50K was the maximum redundancy you could receive to make you eligible for social welfare? The reason I ask is I am expecting a 25K redundancy in October and just want to make sure that I am eligible for dole also. I have scoured the net for info on this but have had no joy. As an aside. I have 15K in savings, do you know if this would affect my claim for social welfare also?

I think if you get more than 50 o 55k (don't remember) there is like a wating period of a few weeks (not sure about the details, but for example you apply and won't get it for the first 4-5 weeks but you will afterwards). I got 28k myself in May and HR told me there is no problem i can apply straight away....so you will be ok also with 25k and will get the dole immediately unless you find a job before.

If you scoll down here you see the waiting times depending on redundancy payments. So you don't have to wait and will get paid from the day you sign on (backdated).
If you are entitled to jobseekers benefit your savings don't matter. I have no experience with jobseekers allowance (means tested) as to how savings are taken into account there, but as far as I understand the means test looks at your income e.g. from your savings. I might get proofed wrong there....
