    Hi,

I have a client who wants to claim parking as an expense- he travels to various locations around Dublin to meet clients etc. I am assuming that claiming this parking as a business expense is OK? His main business is run from home.

Can he also claim the vat on the parking??

    Thanks in advance

Parking as a business expenses is generally acceptable as long as it is incurred for work. Personal parking fees are not.

As for VAT- is he VAT registered?

VAT is not a deductible business expenses. VAT is repayable only to VAT registered businesses. As he has a business from home I'm guessing he's not VAT registered.

You should also bear in mind that charges paid to local authorities for car parking (councils, corporation etc.) are not subject to VAT. This generally covers all on street parking!
