Track & Field technical rules

I'm sure one or two of you trackies will have the answer to this.

UK Athletics produces - every two years, a rule book which covers in fine detail the rules covering every competition and event which comes under its jurisdiction. (For international competition the IAAF handbook is used). No self-respecting official attends a meeting without access to this rule book.

In Ireland I am told (by AAI) that there is no rule book. But there ARE rules - some which appear odd to me. (Examples - compulsory crouch starts and block starts above certain ages).

My simple question is, are these rules available in written form anywhere, or are they handed down in some mysterious way through generations of officials.

As far as I know its the IAAF book only, but could be wrong.

That could be the very simple answer. I see, for example, that crouch/block starts for the sprints are compulsory under IAAF rules. Which surprises me a bit, but explains why I see it in action here.

And the under-age competition regulations are covered by the AAI Juvenile Committee.

    Thanks Tingle.
