low engine compression diagnosed by my mechanic (peug 405 diesel). the car is difficult to start (helps if it is allowed to run through its cycle first a number of times) but once going it is absolutely fine, just like it always was,

my question is how long can a car run with this low compression, i know this may be akin to how long is a piece of string but an educated guess would be appreciated cheers

It will run as long as you can get it started and are happy with its performance.

Assuming it passes its emissions tests in the meantime

Assuming its leggy and the wear has been a long time wearing, I'd say you're good for another while.

...Politician type answer to a political type question ;)

+1, it'll just get gradually harder to start, as the wear progresses it won't like idling either.

cheers well to be honest is hasnt gotten anymore difficult to start over the last 1500 miles whereas when the problem started it progressively got worse for the 1st few weeks. not worth fixing as 1993 and would cost a fair it

    cheers
