    Hi,

I have a jazz quintet and am looking to record 10 tracks for a cd to sell at gigs. The line up is electric bass, drums, guitar, sax (alto & tennor) and vocals. I'm looking for an inexpensive solution, possibly a home studio or someone doing a nixer.
    Any suggestions would be apreciated

    Thanks.

    VV

Well you're not gonna get a good cheap home solution since you've got drums to deal with, Without them you could get away with a cheap (100-200 euro) interface and use a computer one of you guys already own and a few mics.

Where are ye based? If ye were near/willing to travel to Limerick I'd do it for very very cheap, I helped out a mate recording a jazz 3 piece a couple of months back and would love to record another jazz band properly.
If you're interested give me a shout here!

There are 5 of you, everybody puts in 300 yo-yos and you will be able to get a couple of days (at least) in a proper studio. There are lots of deals to be had around. Find someplace with a good live room in which ye all can play together, get well rehearsed and go in and nail it. Also be sure to find someone with a bit of experience recording acoustic music. I know Studiorat has a bit of rep going for himself for doing acoustic stuff.

If you are up to speed 10 songs could easily be done in two days in a decent studio. Maybe 2 or 3 days to mix the thing. That's a week. My guess is a home recording would take much longer to finish. For an investment of under €3,000 including printing etc for 1,000 CD's. When you sell 300 at €10 a pop you are into profit, with a professional product you can stand by in 10 years time.
