Make sure to go see the Cathedral in Milan- Your GF will need a full tshirt to get in and no mini-skirts or short shorts.

Hi OP. Stayed overnight in Milan on Tuesday/Wednesday last. As has been suggested, Il Duomo cathedral is a must see. It is beautiful. We were a party of two adults and two children aged 5 and 2. We were all wearing shorts and had a buggy for the two year old. There were 2 armed security guards on the main door searching handbags as people entered. Women who had cardigans or tops with them were asked to cover up their bare shoulders. It (Duomo) is 4 stops away from the Centrale underground station on the Yellow line. It's surrounded by shops but I thought it was a sign of the times we live in when I saw that there was a McD's directly facing the main entrance.

You could also possibly head for the San Siro - home to Inter and AC Milan? Not sure if they do tours there.

Never stayed in Milan, but I would certainly recommend a stop over in Verona on your way to Venice, it is about half way. Lovely Roman Arena, Ampitheatre and the home of Romeo and juliet (Supposedly).

Venice, well, nothing anyone can tell you can prepare you for the place. the best advice i can give you regarding Venice is to get lost (in a nice way:D). Strolling around all the small streets is brilliant.

I was in Milan last November and thought it was lovely and there is plenty to do. As was mentioned go to the Duomo. Also Castello Sforzesco is worth a visit. We also went to the Ambrosiana Library & Picture Gallery (Biblioteca-Pinacoteca Ambrosiana). We also went the Science Museum, which is good if you you're into science and engineering.

As Milan is the Fashion Capital, it's worth wandering around the fashion district or The Golden Triangle as it's called, even just to see how the other half lives! Also there is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II which is just beside the Duomo.

Trip Advisor provides a suggestion of things to do: http://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attractions-g187849-Activities-Milan_Lombardy.html

The transport around Milan is excellent. You can get a 24hr ticket that will cover you on the Metro, tram and buses.

I was in Milan late last year. As it was just 4 girls, shopping was our activity of choice. :) As the previous poster said, the Golden Triangle is worth a wander around, even just to people watch. your GF will love the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II aswell.

We stayed in the Llloyd hotel. It was nothing fancy but a great price considering it's very central location. If you're looking for nightlife, I'd recommend Club Hollywood on the Corso Como. Again, a great people watching venue! Apparently it's where all the footballers etc go.

Be prepared to bring a lot of spends - Milan is possilby the most expensive city I've been to.

We went on our honeymoon in late 2006

We stayed in the Stars Hotel Anderson http://www.starhotels.com/. It is a lovely hotel, right beside the train station (Central FS) and the underground which is so easy to get down town on. The buses from all the airports drop off at the train staion.

Staff were lovely and spoke good English. We took the train up to LAke Como which is lovely.

    Il Duomo a must.

If you don't stay in the hotel stay in the general area. It's not the prettiest but because of the train etc the area is a great base
