Sky Plus remote control trouble

Last night i was scrolling through the channels on sky when suddenly the blue screen with all the listings froze.
I turned off the sky box and turned it back on again but nothing changed.
I took out the batteries and put them back in again but still nothing.
I left it for a half hour or so but when i came back i the last channel that i was watching was on but again the remote would not work. I put in new batteries but still no good. The red light on the front of the remote does not come on. I was left with the hassle of having to get up off my seat and time i wanted to change the channel.
Did anyone else encounter this at any stage. I only got sky plus at Christmas. I dont want to have to call sky as you are normally left on hold for ages just to speak to someone.
