    Hi All,
Sorry if this has been asked before but i am interested in joining a club in Cork. I am living in Midleton and wondering what are my options. I work in the City so am in and out quite a bit. Looked at Fermoy but its too far and i have a six month old who take up a lot of my time. Is the Cork Tri club a good place to start. Does anyone know where they meet for their training etc and are they nice to newbie who have not got a clue and ask loads of questions ?.
Also do i have any chance of picking up a second hand road bike or will i have to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Hey, I'm kinda in the same boat as yourself. I just joined the Cork Tri club online earlier this week. Haven't gone to any trainings or anything yet. I'm hoping to train towards doing the Blackwater Sprint triathlon on August 30th.
I emailed someone at Cork tri and they train tuesday nights cycling time trials leaving from Glounthane, thursday night swim in Inniscarra and sunday morning cycle from City hall I think. They also sometimes train Wednesday nights with St. Finbarr's AC for running. I was told once I get my notice of membership (which I have) that I should just go along to one of the trainings.

I hope to go to one of these next week and take it from there.

As for the bike, it can be a slow enough process finding one 2nd hand. I got one last week after looking for about 3 weeks. Had to travel to Portlaoise for it. Got a trek 1.2 for 370 and so far I'm loving. If you could avail of the cycle to work scheme, then go for that ( my workplace wouldn't sign up). You can get up to 40% off the bike and pay for the rest over a year. If your going second hand route keep watching adverts.ie, buyandsell.ie, gumtree.ie and maybe evening echo pink pages.

    Hi Lads,
I'm also in the same boat and I'm fairly slow to just show up to a training session on my tod. I'd be happy to meet up for a run / cycle in Cork though with a view to going forward to Join a club as a smaller group at somestage in the future? Or just forming a small training group for now.
I'm relatively new to running, cycling and swimming.
I ran the Dublin marathon last October (I use the word ran loosely) after a bet and promptly went straight back on the fags and booze (that night). Packed in the good stuff again about 2 months ago and I've been doing a bit of running since. I also picked up a second hand bike recently so I've started the slow learing curve on that. I used to be able to swim ok when I was younger.
Would you guys or anyone else be interested or can you give me some advice/pointers?
    Cheers.

    Hi macoitir
Ya i will pm you on my number. are you based in Midleton or the city. I waiting to hear about the bike to work scheme before i purchase a bike. I have started a swim course in Silversprings with Eilish Burns on Monday nights. Only started this Monday but seems to be good. Also a buddy of mine recommends to do Pilates to build up your core so hope to start that next week.
