Air France A380 Roll Out.

The first Air France A380 has now been fully painted at Hamburg and was rolled out yesterday,

its a bit like the "new" Delta (Northwest) 747's... such a big area to paint some waky stuff but it is left white:(

Not sure if I like the new font. It almost looks like a fake, as if someone tried to copy the old one and got it wrong. I reckon if you're getting a new logo, throw a few quid at it rather than getting someone to turn off the 'bold' setting.

not much of a change from when it only had the tail painted and the rest was slimy green primer!

I think it looks very smart but possibly too "corporate" looking, the only thing i hate about Air France is the design on the tail it just looks boring and always has been.

I agree, otherwise it would be a very classy livery.Every time I see it I think somebody botched the stickers or something. Who knows what AF management were thinking in giving it the green light!

Really couldent imagine britishairways or continentalairlines or even swissinternationalairlines making such a hash of their corporate identity.

The first few routes with the bus are New York, Johanesburg, Beijing and Tokyo,so much paint falls of them airfrance they'd be better off just leavin them with primer on:rolleyes:

British Airways did something that almost ruined their corporate identity. It cost £80 million to put right. Remember those tail designs?

That did pass cross my mind but at least say the main BA branding on the website,boarding passes, magazines etc wasent infected by "world tails" from what I can remember at least. Maggie in particular put the final boot in from what I recall!

With the AF livery most peoples first reaction I'd guess is, is it really meant to look like that. Particularly on the A380 the AIRFRANCE stands out like a sore thumb on such a huge canvas.

It's got such a grandiose feeling about it but whenever I ook at pictures of the A380, it just looks like a regular airplane! It needs something distinctive, like the B747-400 'hump'

Two full decks of windows, that massive wingspan helps too...


I don't get why Air France ordered their planes for delivery well after Emirates and Singapore Airlines seeing as Airbus is a french company.

I work for BA. I liked them. It just did not seem to work. It seemed to have been this Britishness thing. As a previous poster mentioned, Maggie Thatcher's rebuke seemed to have ended the tail fin design programme. Sir RB jumped in putting the Union Jack on his aircraft claiming to be the 'British Airline'. Mainly on the winglets. Even BMI have tried to emlhanise the Britishness.......well not since Lufthanasa took over.

At least it kept the lads in the paint shop busy.

Qantas have them aswell. Singpore were first to get the A380 too.

a girl who i did flight training with in america is cabin crew for Qantas out of lhr she works on the A380 flying to Hong Kong/signapore&Bangkok.

i just got a mail of her saying that the captain let her on the flight deck while there were landing(lucky bitch)

IIRC there was also a plan by BA to change the name to BA from British Airways. They considered themselves to be a Global Brand and wanted to remove all reference to "British" in their name and marketing. I think it was more that than anything else for which they got stick, the dropping of the union flag on the tail was just the icing on the cake.

However they totally lost all ' Brand Image '

I remember the old schemes , the dark blue scheme looked great , but became dated , before that I remember them taking the word ' Airways ' off the aircraft and having 20ft BRITISH.

I like the AF scheme TBH, nice and ' honest ' .

I have a friend who works on BA 747's ( and others ) , he is not looking forward to the A380 , says it will be ' too big ' , but by his own admission they must have said this back in the early 70's about the 747.
