Not sure if this post belongs here but i'll give it a shot.
I've been asked to get a CD of songs in WAV format.
When i burn a playlist from iTunes it seems to produce cda files(although these are only 1kb, so must be more like markers for where the song starts i presume).
I can play the cd on any cd-player so my question is "are the songs already in WAV format or do i still need to convert them?"

if you've an audio CD and wish to generate .wav files then you'll need to rip the CD to .wav

there's plenty of software out there to do that. A quick google for CD to wav will probably give you hours of reading

You can import from CD into WAV format in Itunes. Just set the Import settings to WAV.

Yes, iTunes can do it fine, as log as you set it to do so, and can find it in Preferences...
