Sky Installation - Non Standard charges

    Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone could provide me with information on Sky's standard and non standard installations. We are getting Sky installed this weekend, Sky+ in the sitting room and a std box in the bedroom. I've been told this will be a standard installation, however with the phone point in the hall, i assume the engineer will have to use a decent amount of phone cabling to connect the phone into the Sky+ box in the sitting room. (there is a phone point in the bedroom).

I had Sky a number of years ago in a previous house and i was charged €50 because he had to use exta phone cabling.
Does anyone know what is the max amount of phone cabling allowed for a std installation? If the dish has to be connected to the chimney breast rather than the back of the house, is this extra?

I have phoned Sky twice and i've been told there will be no extra charge, however their terms and conditions are so vague, (you will be charged a reasonable amount!!!) and it's next to impossible to find further information online.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any further details, clarifications etc, many thanks.

    Dave

When we had our dish installed it had to be put on a certain part of the house (a church steeple being the excuse the guy gave on the day) and that cost an extra €100 (back in 2004). Have never had the box connected to a phone line and recently got sky+hd, in order for that to be installed but remain unconnected to a phoneline cost an extra €35.50.

is that an extra 35.50 a month??

when we had sky+ installed in sitting room, nearest phone point was in hall but sky guy put cable up through ceiling and connected to an isdn box we had in attic.
after some months noticed extra charge on bill of €50 and couldnt figure out why...turns out sky guy put telephone cable in attic but never hooked it up to anything! this was back in 2004/2005
never got any of the extra charges back from them either...even after wrote letter of complaint

No it's €35.50 once off, I asked about it when I signed up and again when they took the laser payment over the phone.

According to info on other forums, when you get Sky+ installed you have to have it connected to a phone point. I'd rather not have the sky boxes connected to the phone, but it seems its one of their T&C's.

What annoys me is the lack of a clear pricing policy in relation to installation and other related costs, how are people to know if the charges incurred on the day are legit? I have always found the customer service to be unhelpful, i complained the last time i had sky with not much of a reply.

If it's just one Sky box you're getting installed, you don't need a phoneline.

However, as it seems you're getting Sky Multiroom, you'll need a line connected to each Sky box.

    Byte,

Do you know will Sky charge any extra for connecting the box to the phone line in the hall?, as it's offically in another room or would this still come under a standard installation?

    Cheers

Just to let you guys know,

The Sky installer came out today, charged nothing extra for installation even with the phone point in the hall, both boxes needed to be connected to a phone line. I was probably not expecting too much after looking at some of the poorly installed jobs in the area, however i couldn't fault the job they did for us, very neat and tidy with the wiring hidden very well and with no hidden extra charges!!!
