Hey, first of all thanks for any advice in advance.

Basically heres my story: ill be on the Jobseekers Benefit for 9 months in the middle of august, and ive applied for university startin in september. Now as far as i know im eligible in terms of my age, the course itself, no previous degree etc.
However, when i got the dole in the first place, the letter said ill have it for 312 days, which expires in the middle of september (about 2 weeks before college registration day) So im just wonderin will that have any effect? or will i have to just bang in the form as soon as my college offers me the place, and then that'll be it?

Also, whats exactly involved in getting approval from a DSFA facilitator to have the time needed to be on the dole reduced to 9 months?

Heres the paragraph from the citizens info website:
"To qualify for the third level option, the length of time you must be getting a qualifying social welfare payment will be reduced from 12 months to 9 months in line with the National Employment Action Plan when recommended by a Facilitator of the Department of Social and Family Affairs."

Anyone actually gone through with this? Tbh im not sure if im on the NEAP; i am registered with fas but ive really just spent the last few months working my ass off to get a job, havent really thought of registering on such schemes etc.

Anyway, i know its a bit of a long read, but thanks a million in advance for any help.

Coyle were you made redundant before your claim? if yes you are qualified already.
Regarding the NEAP, your are picked up on that system after 3 months but because of backlogs etc. your interview could be a long way of. You should go to your local office and explain your situation and ask for a NEAP interview sooner if possible.

hey thanks for that info. Is the NEAP a Fas thing, or the acual social welfare themselves? I did have an interview with Fas a good while back, askin stuff like what was i doin to look for jobs, had i had any interviews etc. so maybe that was to put me on the NEAP?

As for the actual BTEA itself, i didnt know that they dont count sunday as a day of unemployment, so i will be on the dole 9 months in the middle of august, but my dole wont expire until november so i should be safe for that.

So basically, does anyone have any experience of the actual process of getting recommended for the BTEA for college after 9 months instead of 12?
i.e. what criteria do they look for and should i go after i have a college offer, or before? thanks again.
