Jag Vs SG

I was recording another loop today using the Jag. I then played over it and rocked out breaking a string. So I grabbed the SG to play on. The difference is astounding.
The Jag is beautiful, a work of art and a pleasure to look at. The SG on the other hand is a beauty to hold and play and in my final opinion kicks the Jag's ass.

Indeed it is. Maybe because I've been playing the SG for years, but when I picked it up yesterday, my fingers knew exactly where to go and exactly how it felt.

Plus, you can throw the SG all around, it's so light. It was like an extension of my arm.

If you're basing all your opinions on that one Jaguar (Jaguar HH), it's not a fair comparison at all. That's not a proper Jaguar. A real proper Jaguar is one of these, with single coils and a vibrato unit.

The Jaguar and SG are totally different instruments. It's like saying an Ibanez Jem is better than any acoustic guitar; true, but only if you want to "shred".

I was referring to my guitars. And it is a real Jaguar, just not a standard one.

Yeah, I get you, sorry if I seemed elitist about it. But when you say "Jag", the usual assumption is a standard Jaguar. I would consider the Jaguar single coils and vibrato to be an integral part of the guitar.

Yet I've read elsewhere that a lot of people replace the bridge on the Jag when they first get it.

I got that Jag because I rest my hand on the floating bridge set up since playing the SG. Also, I used to play a fender but never used the tremelo so reckoned I could do without.

I would think that the short scale would also be a factor in the sound. You've just gave me an idea to mod the humbuckers so that I can switch between single and double coil settings.

    Cheers.

The Jaguar vibrato is not a floating bridge, it's totally different to Stratocasters. And the Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge thing is, imho, down to both taste and an unwillingness of some owners to work with their guitars. A lot of people seem to want their guitar to just do whatever they tell it to straight out of the box.

I think he means the Adjusto-matic with the tailpiece, which is basically the same as what he has on the SG.

Indeed. Adjustomatic is indeed what I meant.
I'm considering putting a coil tap (which is also the wrong terminology but widely accepted apparently) on both humbuckers and having a DPDT switch for each, so if all works out correctly the Jag will then look something like this (hopefully) :

    jaghhmodded.jpg

Incidentally, I was doing more research looking for a wiring schematic and discovered this about the Jag HH:
The Jaguar HH (currently only in black) is a dual humbucker Jaguar with a TOM bridge
and tailpiece, with all the controls of the Jaguar. It’s literally a remake of Cobain’s jag
without the Les Paul style switch.

dude sorry to say but that plate idea seems really bad
why not get a bass VI plate???

    B6_4SwPlate_wide.JPG
....and dump the jag's tone switch (i use that term very loosely!)

so you could have two switches for pickup on/off and then two for coil taps?

    it'd work so much better

Cheers. I didn't know they existed.

Brainstorming a little more and now I'm thinking get one of them bass plates, keep the tone switch (which I like), add the 2 coil tap on/off switches and then
put in a three way selector toggle switch with a on/off on/on off/on option.

I'd also like a variable capacitor for the tone switch but I think that's asking for a world of headaches.
