    Hi,
I just got a letter from the revenue telling me that I did not file a self assessment for last year, is this normal? I am a director of a company, which is not trading, and I work PAYE.

    Thanks

    Hi Mark

Yes this is normal. If your listed as a company director with Revenue you still have to file a return eventhough your income is only PAYE.

Has this only started this year? I have been a director of the company for a few years now and this was the first notice I got, It was a kinda threatening letter also, is that normal?

It depends on when you became registered (or notified) revenue that you were the director of a company. Letters will issue until you file a return. You will have to submit a return from now on or until you de-register as a company director. The form will be easy enough to complete as you have no income as a director so basically its a case of paperwork. The longer you leave it, the more demanding the letters will get as you and not fulfilling your tax obligation.

The form you're looking for is a Form 11...although a Form 11E will probably do if you dont ahve any self-employed income, its just a shorter version of the Form 11 with not as much detail on it

If you are going to remain a dir and will need to fill in forms in the future it is well worth registering with ROS. Form filling and filing is much easier although there are a number of steps to be gone thru for security reasons when registering.;)

By the way the form 11e figures you will need are straight from your p60 if you had no other income. If you need a hand pm me and I will help. I do hubby's every year and it is a doddle. Lots of totally ignoring sections that don't relate to you. If you are married and jointly assessed you will also need your spouse's P60. You are also supposed to put down any interest or divs earned etc etc.
