Commute southbound on the M50 daily and im just trying to find out what the best time of day to be on the M50 southbound is? Im sure there has to be a small window of opportunity where the M50 is not at its worst. I hit the M1/M50 roundabout at quarter past five yesterday and it was an absolute nightmare. Anyone got any tips because the bottleknecks on it are driving me nuts

am I right to assume you are talking about commuting St bound in the evenings not mornings?

From my own daily experience, it seems to be easier sth bound in the morning, but Nth bound is delayed from Fingals to M1 pretty much all of rush hour, morning and evening.

    I got Sth bound at 7am from my hse, M1 7.05, M50 7.15, ballymount exit 7.25, work 7.35.
Thats 26 miles in 35 mins, lately. Its about 5mins slower when the schools are about.

Once the Fingals -> M1 upgrade is done (in the coming months) it will make a huge difference.

the return journey in the evening is 50-55min.

It's actually the best it's been in years at the moment, what with the schools being off and so many people being out of work. The only problems tend to be around Ballymun and Finglas where people slow down to look at the roadworks and then further on at Ballymount where it goes back to two lanes.

The big problems only arise when there's a breakdown or a collision, although though there does tend to be more of them these days because the lanes are narrower than they used to be.

Are you new to this route? Because it was WAY worse 12 months ago.

Im not new to the route im just bloody sick of doing it. Seem to always get stuck at two bottleknecks, straight after the M50/M1 roundabout and then again when the 3 lanes goes back to 2 after the red cow roundabout. Just want to see if there is a better time for me to leave work at. Id rather get a coffee and leave later if means less traffic or likewise cut my lunch and leave earlier if that works. Currently i hit the M1/M50 at 5.15 and its down to second gear. Wondering if its better to arrive at the M1/M50 earlier or later than this
