    HI,

Booked driving lessons for my wife with a driving instructor.
paid for 5 lessons up front.

he completed 3 lessons. and was sick one day for the 4th and said he would rearrange.

after a week we called and he said he would call back the next day.
he did not call the next day and its been 2 weeks since last contact with him.

not answering his mobile or landline.
now hopefully there isnt anything wrong with him healthwise , but if there is there body i can complain to?

You can contact the RSA and they should be able to help. (www.rsa.ie). The instructor should be registered with the RSA and should have passed at least Stage 1 of the ADI exam. If not he's breaking the law and is liable to prosecution. By the 1st August next he must be a fully qualified ADI to give lessons for reward.

Firstly, is an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) ?

If you dont know check out www.drivertesting.info and see if he is listed.

If he is, then I guess you could complain to the ADI unit of the RSA although to be honest not sure what real good it will do.

If he is not an ADI then the RSA wont get involved I would think, they will say you should have used an ADI!

In that situation I think you are just left with the Consumer Association and the like. If you want your money back (or at least for the 2 lessons) then the small claims court may be an option if you want to pursue it. What exactly do you want to achieve by complaining ?

However, if he genuinely was sick maybe it is all a misunderstanding, he could be away on holidays for the last 2 weeks which would explain why he does not answering the phones. One other quick test is to call him but ensure your number is 'private' in case he is screening your calls!

It not usually a good idea to pay for lessons in advance as the instructor may not be suitable.

Even if he/she was properly qualified/registered, experienced, with a good track record and even recommended, some people just don't hit it off and the money may be wasted.

It's better to take the first or second lesson at the normal rate and then block book if satisfied.

That list isnt an exhaustive one...the ADI instructors can opt out of that list if they never agreed to be put there in the first place.

Another place to get an ADI driver is http://www.roadready.ie

Again not exhaustive but they have more info on the instructors and pricing too.

I disagree, the ADI list is a far more complete list than the list on that website. I do not know of any ADI who has opted not be included on the RSA ADI list after passing the exams.

As I mentioned in a previous post, the road ready website is simply an advertising site for instructors and is very limited - for example, there are no instructors listed for Cork City!

I noticed you've mentioned this website on "Searching for an Instructor", have you some connection to it?
I tried about 20 different towns and I didn't get one instructor.

I only tried Dublin areas (as I am in dublin). Didn't know some counties were empty...
    Looks like a new site.

The Dublin section is arseways also!

The entries for my area of dublin are from a another area altogether. Some instructors are appearing in several areas simultaneuously.

Forsaken1, I too am also wondering if you have any affiliation to the aforementioned website as you have pimped it on here on numerous occasions and there doesn't appear to be a comprehensive list of ADI drivers on it at all - I tried Galway City and it returned 1 result - someone in North Dublin!

I think you should only contact driving instructors who are RSA-ADI because then you can complain to the rsa when things like this happen.

To all mods: If driving Instructors on here are giving help to people why do you not allow them to mention the, service or website when asked by the op's.

    regards
