    My Trek 1.7 arrived today.
Kudos to you EuroCycles that was damn fast.

However... It looks waaay cooler than it did in the picture and it really stands out amongst the other bikes on the stand at work.
I am a bit paranoid of it being stolen now.
Whats a good lock that would keep someone busy for a good amount of time? The main culprits around here are the kids from the halting site down the road so I doubt there are too many professionals, but having a brute of a lock on it might be in my best interests as well.

Please can I get your personal favorite locks so I can lock this puppy down good.

I am tempted to dirty it up a bit with electrical tape and the like to make it less visible.

    Yeah. Thanks.
Deprive the cycling crowd here to display their wide knowledge to a noob? I would rather not.
Would you rather I start a thread about helmets?

Not getting it done with LMGTFY. :(

In saying that, I did find the thread I was looking for via that. So grudging thanks should be in order.

Are you carrying the locks with you or leaving them at the rack? Obviously you can get some really heavy duty gear if you're just leaving it there; but if you're carrying stuff, I find that an Abus Steel-o-Flex wrapped around my waist (to lock the rear wheel and frame to the rack), and a mini kryptonite mounted on the frame (for the front wheel, either locked to the frame, or both the frame and the rack if possible) have deterred thieves with my bikes. So far. Touch wood.

I wonder whether you would be better using the mini kryptonite to lock the rear wheel in the Sheldon style, and then secure the front wheel using the Abus? Isn't the mini kryptonite the better lock?

I use two U-locks -- one long shackle and one short shackle -- to secure both wheels and frame and a cable lock to secure the saddle (I have a trailer hitch on the seat post that would be tricky to replace). If I'm just popping in to the shops quickly, I use the short shackle in the Sheldon style and the cable lock for the front wheel and forget about the long shackle.

I use a New York Kryptonite lock. Weighs a ton (well 2.5kg) but the previous lock I used didn't last 10 mins in Clontarf in full public view so I prefer to be cautious.

I would never ever use a cable lock on its own, armoured or otherwise. Knacks can get through them in no time.

I have a Kryptonite New York...great lock, weighs a ton. Pete's advice is about as sound as you can ask for.

I have the kyrptonite new york also, heavy and forbiding. Won't stop an ultra determined thief but chances are that every other bike nearby will be easier to steel.

    Secure bicycle locations

    Dublin
The following car parks all have racks for 20 bikes.

Dawson Street Car Park (€15 euro for a key, daily access free)
Temple Bar Car Park (24 hr)
    IFSC Car Park
    Brown Thomas Car Park.

Stupid q's but do you just cycle up where the cars go and bunny hop the gate ?:pac:

Are they all as safe as each other? I know there would be surveilance to a point but would the bike area not be in a dungeon dark area?

I've a Kryptonite NY as well. You could also consider adding the bike to your home contents insurance specified all risks list (just in case the worst happens).

A few questions on the carparks:
Are keys still available for the Dawson Street car park (I heard they weren't giving any more out)?
Are there charges for any of those other car parks listed in the wiki?
How secure are they in the experience of anyone who's used them?

    Thanks.

I used two locks for my old bike, a Krytonite and an a large Oxford lock. I think using two locks certainly dissaudes thiefs.

I have a road bike now and I don't take it anywhere I know it will need to be locked, paranoia or what!

My Abus Granite XPlus has sucessfully resisted attack before in the past in Dublin. Now I'm living in a town where you can leave a grands worth of electric bike (I see someone doing this) locked using a cheap cable lock and nobody will touch it.
