Either but the better the tequila, the better the margarita
Look for 100% agave on the bottle anything else isn't proper tequila - just a blend of tequila and corn alcohol with some colour and flavouring.

Personally I think Gold Tequila adds a richer flavour, but it's not as important as making sure you use fresh lime juice.

I also prefer Cointreau to triple sec.

What brands have 100% agave and what brands are just the blend ?

Most brands will have different grades of Tequila.
Look for 100% Agave on the label - it will be fairly prominent!
    You'll pay more too!

Here's some descriptions of tequila types

pretty interesting reading, if that's your thing!

Yes, both mixto although both brands probably do 100% Agave too.
If you hunt around good offies, you should find some good Tequila but expect to pay €60+ for it.
There's a thread on here about Patron Tequila.
Celtic Whiskey shop do some posh Tequila too, I believe.

100% agave or 100% blue agave should be pretty clear.
I like the Reposado type - its kinda golden in colour.

Got a lovely bottle in Barcelona for about €35, the taste and feeling in your mouth is so unique for a spirit, it really is different than the Jose crap. Its kinda numbing and like a jelly if that makes sense...
